Who caused this fire?

Who caused this fire?

Good morning! Thought I'd start the day off with a friendly poll.

First a little background - I don't cook; therefore, my oven has been a storage facility for me for the past 5+ years. The 2 of us are temporarily living in my teeny cramped apt. until our house is inhabitable and I'm still using the oven for storage.

My DH, bless him, cooks dinner for us every night. So last night he emptied the oven, turned it on & went next door to talk to our landpeople while it heated up. Suddenly the entire house is FILLED with smoke & every fire alarm in the house is blazing. They all apparently run back into the apt. and the oven's ON FIRE! Luckily my fire extinguisher was handy & they put it out, but the house still reeks. So anyways, I trot in from work (after a particularly heinous day!) at like 6:30 and guess what?! EVERYONE blamed ME for the fire!!! Apparently there was a piece of tupperware stored in there (which I don't remember doing because I never put t.w. in there!), it melted and lit up. The oven's now completely dismanteled & the gas is off until we finish cleaning it.

So finally, my question: Is this my fault or his??

Honestly....I would say his fault for not emptying the oven entirely.

Dual fault. I mean you really should NOT store plastic in there ever in case of a leak of any kind but its also his fault for not double checking. I always have to check casue ym husband tends to put our cast iron pot in there to heat it and keep it from rusting cause its nice and dry.

whoooaa sorry that happened!

but it's definitely 50/50 i think

I totally almost pre-heated our foreman grill because DH shoved it in there and I had no idea... i just HAPPENED to check before I turned it on.

Thanks ladies! After the assault that I got last night when I walked in (all in good fun, with smiles) I wanted to make sure that it wasn't ALL my fault! I'll accept 1/2 the blame

That's exactly what I told him! Had he been there cooking and not chatting it never would have gotten to that point

Re: Who caused this fire?

MOSTLY his--but u definitely have a fault too -- using the oven for storage isn't the best idea--but i know a lot of ppl do it.

but he should have made sure to LOOK inside the stove and ensure there was NOTHING else in it before he turned it on. i mean if he emptied it--why didn't he make sure it was empty?

i'd say like 75% his fault 25% yours?

Oh my! It's good to know that we're not alone lol but know what I'm seeing here? Role reversal...it looks like I'm being the lazy guy in this scenario!!

I'll never forget the 1st time he opened my fridge back when we 1st started dating...all he saw was a few bottles of wine, a 12 pack of beer and some frozen dinners in the freezer, so he looked at me incredulously and said 'OMG! What am I dating? A BACHELOR?!?!?!'

Re: Who caused this fire?

his fault b/c he should have checked the stove before turning it on.

AND... he should not have left the house after leaving the oven on.

a BIG no no

he's a guilty boy guilty guilty guilty

Totally his for not emptying it completely.. He should have really looked inside to make sure everything was out..

Totally his - he should've checked and he should not have walked away. This is NY, space comes at a premium. I don't know anyone who doesn't use their oven as storage. I wouldn't recommend keeping plastic there though

Re: Who caused this fire?

Sooooooooooo not your fault. I had relatives from Ireland staying in my apt. while we were on our HM. My uncle did the same thing the whole place stunk of burnt plastic. Look before you Cook.
It's just great that nothing worse happened. Oh and by the way the same uncle almost blew up our BBQ when he came over for my sisters wedding he left the gas on and the top closed.

I am sooooo loving that quote! I think that I'm going to make a nice sign with that on it and stick it to the refridge.
