Who do you trust w/your e-ring???

My diamond is loose and I want to find a reputable jeweler in Manhattan preferably midtown that can fix the setting right in front of me.

Thanks for any help.

DH got my ring from Iannelli's in the Diamond District (he was referred to them by a few friends at work). We went back for our wedding bands and they were very helpful.

ask jennbaby - she has someone who she refers to everyone!

Angeleyes - any reputable jeweler will either fix anything with diamonds or precious stones right in front of you, or they should take the diamond out in front of you, hand it to you, and than you hand it back to them after the work is one. Never leave your diamond with anyone, even if you trust that person. If another worker there can not be trusted, and it is switched with cz or moissonite, you will not be able to tell the difference with the naked eye!

I use the same jeweler as Jen, he is not in midtown he is on Canal street you will really like him. His name is Murray Kirsch. I have his info at work. But jen can give you a response tonight.

Do not trust anyone with your diamond - even someone you trust implicitly.

Can you tell I had a nightmare problem with this? I will not get into my issue but do not let anyone out of your sight with the diamond.

Thanks LisaT.

He is very reputable and your diamond will NEVER leave your site!

Always have your ring fixed in front of you, unless your dad is the one fixing it

Re: Who do you trust w/your e-ring???

thanks to everyone for the help

i did bring my ring to someone and he did it right in front of me and still screwed it up!

he squeezed the prongs w/a tool that made what looked like dents in the platinum

i was fuming but what could i do???

why is it that every 4-5 months my diamond seems loose?

im so scared of doing anything w/my e-ring now

but i'll check this guy out thanks again

angeleyes....how is your diamond now???? My FIL is a jewler and I will ask him if you want why the prongs look like theyr'e dented. Unfortunately my FIL is on LI and not in the city. He deals with a lot of jewlers in Manhattan and if you like I can ask him for a good one. Best of luck to you!

Update

I went all the way downtown and took my ring to William Barthman jewelers at 174 Broadway. Felt good supporting downtown manhattan this place is a block away from where the world trade center was.

They were AMAZING!!!! I'm sure there are other great jewelers out there - like your FIL Kelly!!!! but oh my goodness it took almost an hour for him to do (the guy who did the repairs was Gilo) and he let me look over his shoulder every step of the way.

He was even telling me what each of his tools did - really nice guy.

My ring looks better now than when I first got it he polished out EVERY single scratch and even polished the inside and sides of the rings (wedding and e-ring!).

OK so it's not great that I took a 2 hour lunch cause now I have to work till like 8pm but it was worth it.

I can't say enough good things about this jeweler for all you guys who work downtown or in Manhattan.

It cost me $150 to get the ring polished and the prongs tightened but it was so worth it.

OK sorry for rambling. And thanks again for all your help.

I wish I had found this board alot sooner....you all seem really great!

Re: Update

I'm so happy for you! It kills me to hear stories about people not happy with their jewlers. I can bet that my FIL knows the guy that you took your ring to. He deals with a lot of nice people in the city and is careful with the others. It sounds like you were treated right.

Best of luck!

Re: Update

I am so happy you are happy. I know what you mean. I paid to have my side stones changed and my ring polishes and the rings polished. I felt like a new woman. The price of comfort is worth it. and you peace of mind.
