Who does what in your home?

I'm curious how my fellow '07ers divide household duties with their DH.

I do all the laundry, folding, all cooking, dishes, dusting, vacuuming, bill paying, and organizing.

DH does everything having to do with the bathroom, the cat litter, and fixing things. He also vacuums.

We both work very long hours, and recently splurged on the luxury of having a cleaning service 2x per month. It has changed our lives, but
I still feel like I never stop cleaning and folding. (that laundry is endless!)

I'm just curious how everyone else divides the housework up.

Well, the plan was to split it evenly, week by week. If I did laundry one week, then he'd do it then next, and he'd clean the bathroom that week. Except I rarely do the laundry anymore as I can't lift anything heavy--yeah, it's rough --so he does that (although we both did it last Sunday) and I do more of the cleaning around the apartment. He does a lot more cooking than I do, mostly because we eat a lot of stuff on the grill and that's his thing, and even when it's not he still likes big pieces of meat so he cooks them. When dinner is pasta or something like that I tend to cook it. If we buy a house with a yard (instead of a condo or townhouse) he'll probably do most of the outdoor stuff as I'm afraid of big power tools like lawnmowers and weed whackers--trust me, you don't want me in control of a rapidly spinning blade. The only part of this arrangement that bothers me, and I need to talk to him about it, is he rarely cleans the cat box, and supposedly we were going to take turns every day. I don't think he's cleaned it in weeks, other than the day he took the entire thing out and changed the litter. He did that because I can't lift and carry that much litter.

cleans which includes the bathrooms and all bedrooms, dusts, vacuums, does laundry, all dish related tasks, takes care of bills, does the littler box, feeds the cat (DH will do it in the am) kills all bugs in the house, take out the trash and recyclables.

cooks, complains about brings the garbage to the curb, watches TV, plays games on the computer, scratches, and will occasionally agree with me when I tell him something is broken

We try to divide it pretty evenly. I do more of the cooking and dusting, I also tend to clean the bathroom more often (he thinks it only needs to be cleaned every month or so ). We split the laundry and he usually vacuums/mops. He does the dishes more (hand washing pots/pans/etc), but I'm usually the one who empties the dishwasher. So far our arrangement works!

DH: ill give it to him that he washes the dishes after i cook but then the rest of his jobs are as follows: throws his dirty clothes AT the hamper, takes a shower and it looks like a shaggy dog shook itself alllllllllllll over the floor and sink, watches TV, plays PSP, goes on the computer and occasionally takes a nap



ME: .......everything....enuff said

-cleaning, cooking, laundry, ironing etc etc

..err.. I mean ( ) does nothing..oh taking out trash..his only chore that he has the nerve to gripe about!!! oh and he lifts anything over 25lbs..I claim I bruise like a peach

He takes care of the financials...i do it for a living don't wanna come home to deal with balancing checkbooks and whatnot

We almost always do everything together...he helps me clean and do the laundry...bathroom and kitchen I do myself but he takes out the garbage and cleans the patio

So it works out pretty evenly, tho I always wind up refolding his clothes b/c I cant stand the way he folds them

We also have someone clean 2 times a month but as you know if we let it go that long it would be

Vacuums and dusts, takes out garbage

Cleans and scoops cat littler, makes most of the money

We do laundry, gardening, cooking, and the like together

we actually do split things fairly evenly...

I do foodshopping, pay 70% of bills, clean kitchen, dining/living room, do laundry, make lunch

he cleans bathroom, bedroom, pays 30% of bills, takes out trash, makes coffee and makes drinks for work

we both cook / do dishwasher

the only extra burdon I have is making the executive decisions...... financial, organizational, decorating.... which some months isn't bad at all, but if we're buying a car, home, or it's close to 4/15, there's a good deal of work to do!

I must say it is defintely Equal sharing in the Chores.

When DH is home, He ALWAYS helps me with the Laundry (in is own way, He Hates to Fold. it'll take him forever to Fold a wahcloth).

I clean the bathroom, and clean the bathroom floor. He washes & cleans the kitchen floor (which is Bigger, but doesn't get done as often as the Bathroom floor does )

Let's see.....We go Food shopping together.
He takes out the trash.
He is the one who cleans out the Kitty Litter the most. I do it maybe twice a week.
He does Most of the COOKING!!!
He Loves too. So I let him. And He cooks GOOD!!!
I do clean up after him.
I also unload the dishwasher & wash whatever dishes that need be.
I Vacume, swip the floor & clean the Living Room, with his help if he is home.

all the cleaning (kitchen, bathroom, dusting, mopping sweeping etc.), cooking - except stuff that could be made on the George Foreman Grill...DH takes care of that, handle the finances, laundry and the worst chore of all ironing.

dries the dishes every night, sets the table for dinner, handles dinner if it could be made on the George Foreman lol, takes out the garbage and buys groceries on a daily basis.

It's not exactly 50-50, but i can't really complain...if I could only take the ironing out of the mix I would be sooo happy!

We pretty much do the same!

- cooking and picking stuff up during the day (since I'm not working this year), washing dishes
- laundry, taking out trash, and drying the dishes.

I'd say we're definitely 50-50 :)

cooking, cleaning, food shopping, finances

bbqs, takes out trash, mows the lawn, sometimes vaccums

If he cooks I'll do the dishes and vice versa

He has been doing EVERYTHING. I only make up our bed and clean up behind the pets.
It will change once I'm out of school. I feel a lil guilty. But he loves to clean.

When I am not at work (nearly never) I cook- I love to- and I clean the bathroom.
DH does pretty much everything else, and he likes doing laundry so I am pretty lucky. He is a total neat freak, so he is always cleaning and nothning ever really gets all that messy, so it works out. We both walk our dog and clean up after her (me in the a.m., in the p.m/night)

OMG! You are a very lucky woman! A man who LOVES to clean??????? This is unbelievable. Let's trade. Just kidding!

I have to say its pretty 50-50

- all the cleaning - bathroom, dusting, mopping, etc.
cooking, washing dishes, drying, fold clothes, ironing

makes the bed every morning (that was HUGE for him lol) all the laundry, some little cleaning (dusting and mopping occasionally), takes out the garbage, separates the garbage if I didn't

We split the bills in half ... so I pay for certain things, and he pays for certain things - and its pretty even

He loves to clean!! I think he has OCD. Give that man clorox wipes and he will smile for hours.

I take care of the pool, laundry, ironing and all the bills.

Everything else we do if it needs to be done. We each mow the lawn, do the dishes and we go grocery shopping together. It's nice to make the important decisions together like honey nut or regular cheerios.
