Who has either nursed DH/DW or been nursed though a bad illness yet?

Who has either nursed DH/DW or been nursed though a bad illness yet?

My DH got something that looked like Strep throat last week. His lymph nodes swelled, and he had a fever and a very bad sore throat. I took off work to nurse him. He's been on Amoxicillin ever since. He seemed to be okay for most of the week, but then...

Saturday night, he has either a stomach flu or a SEVERE reaction to his last Amoxicillin pills, beccause (and this may be TMI) ... well, let's just say it was MESSY. We didn't sleep all night, either of us. And then the next day he couldn't sleep because every hour he had to be up and into the bathroom. He also had chills. Finally he got to sleep at 10 in the morning.

He's okay today, but man, if he ever doubted I loved him...

Looking forward to kids, let me tell you.

Anyone else?

I hope your DH gets better. I can't say that I've nursed DH through anything, but I know I would do the same thing.

Wow - I can't believe it's three years already - but three years ago I had to have a lumpectomy to make sure tumors that were found weren't cancerous. It was outpatient surgery, but it was still surgery and the anaestesia knocked me for a loop. It seriously took a MONTH to feel better. My mom flew up from Florida for the surgery and that weekend - but DH (who was my boyfriend at the time) did everything for me - from helping me get dressed to helping me shower, to changing my bandages. I was so embarassed and upset for him to look at me - but since he's in the medical profession - it didn't even phase him. He was truly my rock.

About a year later, one of his friends was telling me how scared and nervouse he was about the surgery and the results - you would have never known!!

That really is sweet! It just underscores how close you get to your DH, because I don't think there's anyone else I would want to see me in a situation like that, and I know that for DH it's the same way. Very personal.

Thank you, but I think it's just part of being married. He would do the same for me. I hope he feels better too.

I hope he is feeling better!

I'd have to say my DH had probably done a whole lot more nursing than I have. 1 year before we were married while he was on vacation I had my tubes tied & then got an upper respiritory infection and he took care of me all week. He has done so much more too.

The night we got engaged he ended up being driven home from work with a stomach virus. We spent the night in PJ's on the couch instead of us going to dinner on V-day as we had planned.

I can definitely relate to this. 3 months after we were married, DH has a spontaneous lung collapse. He was in the hospital for 2 and a half weeks, under went surgery, had a chest tube for a week and a half, had the tube taken out, had the tube put BACK in , due to air leaking. I never thought so young, we would have to deal with something like that(he is 26, I just turned 25). It is very hard to to see someone you love in SO much pain for a long time. DH was on morphine and was VERY moody at times, which would upset me. I had to do things to help him that I would never imagine doing to my 26 year old husband. I questioned if I could handle everything, I still check if he's breathing at night, and constantly ask if he feels good. Hopefully we will never have to go through this again.

And then kids
I can just see myself now, I'll be the biggest worry wart.

Nadine.. thats what being a great wife is about. You have seen for worse and you jumped in without hesitation. I hope Arie feels much better too.

Dh is the one who nursed me.. I threw up almost everyday from 7 weeks pregnant until I delivered at 37 weeks. I would eat a cracker and it would come up. Drink a sip of water. It would come up. I was hospitalized almost 14 times and he was there every time. He would hold me when I would pray to the porcelain God. He would bathe me because I was on complete bedrest where showers were things I were allowed only 2-3 times a week becasue standing too long could put me into labor. I dont know how he did it without breaking down..did I mention that if I got overly stressed my BP would sky rocket so he couldnt even show he was scared cause then I would have gotten upset too. He changed IV's, gave injections..cooked, cleaned, EVERTHING..We have seen an example of for worse and passed with flying colors. I think the for better is easy..its the for worse that truely counts.

Hmmm.....we've been through alot together:

First DH nursed me when I had my wisdom teeth out while we were dating

Then I nursed him through rotator cuff surgery (I took several days off to sleep on the couch in his parents house)....had to help him dress, eat, drive.....you name it because he had no use of his left arm for 6 weeks

Then he nursed me when I had my tonsils out which seemed to take forever to recover from!!!

Then he nursed me through our miscarriage right before Christmas

About 3 or so months before DH and I got engaged, he had bad, very bad back problems, couldn't sleep, in soo much pain. He was living at his moms and I was staying there almost everynight. Then he had surgery, but the pain was still horrible. He would wake me up in the middle of the night to draw him a bath b/c sometimes it was the only relief he could get for 10 minutes. It was a rough couple of months for both of us. BUt it all comes down to our engagement

He found out he had to have a 2nd surgery on our dating anniversary and he had planned to take me to a romantic dinner and propose, so he did it a couple of days before. One of my first words after yes was, We can't afford this! He had been out of work on disability for like 3 or 4 months.

Sorry once I started I couldn't stop, not so much a nursing story anymore

Al had knee surgery a few months ago - just weeks after we moved into our new house.

He was on crutches for weeks and needed constant care since he wasn't supposed to be that mobile.

It was definitely STRESSFUL with everything we had going on...
