My inlaws want copies of some of our proofs in 4x6 and 5x7's. When we asked the price of getting these printed it was expensive. I hear that is the case with a lot of photographers.
Here is my question...do you think that the photos are better quality printed since it comes from a photographer instead of let's say kodak gallery? It just baffles me.
Thanks for reading my rant/question.
Haven't been on in awhile but i do hope things are well with you ladies. Have a great warm weekend!

Re: why are reprints from photographers so expensive?
This is why I scanned every one of my proofs b/c the photographer wanted to charge an arm and leg for additional photos.

I have had reprints made from Shutterfly and they look amazing. You have to be careful though because some of the pics might might not have enough resolution to enlarge. The site will tell you if the quality is compromised. If it says that the resolution is good....I say go for it!

thanks that is what i figured. Now to convince my inlaws that using shutterfly and kodakgallery is fine and that they shouldn't spend more than that to get good prints from high resolution proofs on cd.
Thanks again ladies. Enjoy the weekend.

Re: why are reprints from photographers so expensive?
thats just how they make money! as if they didnt 'milk enough' out of us (or, eh my mom) hehehe.
rescanning works, but my photographer but their name and date at the bottom, so when i crop it it sometimes cuts off the pix. and i cant get my proofs on a cd until my album is in. . . which i never ordered my album yet because i have extra pictures, but no extra $ !!!
proofs must be scanned at about a 600 resolution to come out good!

Order reprints from mpix.com. They come out just like professional pics! They are more expensive then shutterfly or other online sites, but not nearly as much as if you went to your photographer. I only had digital files and I ordered all my prints from mpix - they came out amazing!

Re: why are reprints from photographers so expensive?
Mpix has great quality reprints (far and away better than kodak ,shutterfly, etc..)
The markup on reprints from photographers is very big.
But you can only legally order prints elsewhere with your photographers permission. A photographer owns the copyright of all of his/her work and is entitled to turn a profit on the reprints if he/she want to. Most places turn a blind eye to copyright violation anyway but its still wrong.

Great to know! This was one of the reasons we went with the photographer we did!

Re: why are reprints from photographers so expensive?
that's why I am SO glad that we got our proofs and all the digital files on DVD's. I made a TON of re-prints and enlargements from online photo places for a fraction of what they would have cost through the photographer.
BUT, I have to be honest... the quality of the paper that our proofs were printed on is FAR superior to shutterfly, winkflash, kodak, etc. it's at least 2x the thickness and they don't look as good. although certainly good enough for reprints.
