Better question: why do we get 2 feet of snow in Suffolk County, yet still have to trudge into work in Nassau County? Meanwhile, DH gets a snow day and my superintendent calls everybody to say THERE WILL BE NO SNOW DAY!!!! That happened two weeks ago.
