Window replacement

We want/need to have all our windows replaced in our home. How do you recommend we start?

We drive around and look at homes and have ideas in our head or what we like and want. Is there a place to go to see things in a store - like a showroom - that someone would recommend (I guess home depot expo would be one)? That way I can learn names of stuff - not just like the house on Bellmore Ave.

We have a quote from the previous owner to have some of the work done and we plan on giving that store a visit on Saturday but I want to come armed with some of my own info so I understand what they are saying. Any websites you recommend as well?

Also, we plan to do the siding and roof - any one know what should be the proper order of getting this work done? Hopefully we can afford to do all three at once but if we can't - what order do you think the should be done?

Re: Window replacement

Windows first then roof and siding (which should include gutters, soffits, trim and shutters). There is a US Window store on Merrick Rd in Bellmore about 2 blocks west of Newbridge on the North side.

Good Luck!

Re: Window replacement

We also replaced all the windows in our home. We just went down to Home Depot, and asked what's the largest size Anderson window you've got that has a bit of an arch on the top...turns out I think it's like 12 feet by 8 feet...so that was it!

THey were very helpful, and I think they have like a catalogue for you to look through. You may want to start with them.

Re: Window replacement

I just replaced my front windows.

Our windows were an odd size so we had to have it custom ordered. If you can determine if your window is standard or custom, that should be your first step.

Re: Window replacement

Two top window brands are Anderson and Pella...Pella has a showroom in Hauppage.
