Wine Conoissures I need your help

Wine Conoissures I need your help

OK So I know the basic differences of TYPES of wines....

but how can I learn more about the subject? I'm always really impressed with people that know what to pick, and why....

so I'm looking for a book on it-but the only one that looks remotely like what I'm looking for is 'Wine for Dummies'.

How did you learn about wine?? Help!

LOL I am by no means an expert but I took a class once where they taught you the different kinds of grapes and what sorts of flavors they yield...

I hate oaky wines. I love dry. Thats all I know...as far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as good Chardonnay, lol

When you figure all this out, take me with you!

oooh...count me in count me in!

The only thing I can tell you from my prob almost 25 years of wine drinking is that when you swish a wine around in a glass - if you look at the wine marks or 'legs' as they're called - the longer they take to run down the glass they better the wine is - they quicker they run down the glass - the 'cheaper' the wine is (so to speak) - but Ive had some really great wines with not such good 'legs' & vice-versa so then again what the frick do I know? ...lol

Let's WINE IT UP LADIES!!!!

You know what we also do that helps? I have an iphone app that takes a pic of a bottle that you like and you can write the description, price, your own review ect...

it's helpful to jot down ones that you like... I also always try to talk to the peeps at wine bars too

I heard wine tasting parties are fun!

I'm also by no means an expert but I do know what I like and what I don't... I spend time in the store reading the labels on the bottles and the blurbs they post on the displays. Our liquor store has little signs with information and the wine's points from Wine Spectator which is a help! I recently learned that I LOVE Malbec, thanks to a salesperson's suggestion.

I've taken classes before but don't find them particularly useful. For one thing, if you are serious about learning, you HAVE to spit out the wine you taste, otherwise you'll get sauced and not know what you're drinking by the end LOL.

Every once in a while I'll pick up a copy of Food & Wine at the supermarket to see what good wine bargains are out there.

I found a couple of classes:

1

2

And the classes are $40-45.

But whats even better is going to a wine bar and just trying a bunch of different wines. that is always fun

Re: Wine Conoissures I need your help

My father is a wine conoissure, he has been collecting wine since I was a kid and I grew up tasting... sadly I still dont know much about wine and I really need to learn because at this point if he drank 3 bottles a day for the rest of his life he would still leave me with a pretty good collection and some are incredibly expensive and fancy wines.

I haven't had time to read it yet but he told me to get the Windows on the World Wine Course book... it is the absolute best way to learn everything and anything about wine. It is how my dad learned.

Before 9-11 he has the best wine course in the world, his book is great. He still updates it every year.

Then once you have done that subscribe to the wine spectator.

Also if you want to look like you know what you are talking about get the hilarious and fun, but out of print book... The Official Guide to Wine Snobbery. It will teach you some basics and its absolutely hilarious. I buy copies whenever I find it and give it to people when I give them wine glasses at showers, e-parties or holidays.

I would be interested in that... once I am feeling better, drinking right now is probably out for me.

Well, if everyone wants to wait until the weather gets better - spring, perhaps? my parents have a summer house in Cutchogue (just a stone's throw from Pindar) & we can do some wineries out there & also crash at my parents...just putting it out there!

I love wine. Im not a win consoissure but Im always suprised by how much friends and family tell me I know about wine.

(probably because I drink it so much)
Try going to a wine trail. Its really fun and you learn alot about different kinds of wine. How its made, what it goes with.

Me and DH love going.
