Wood Furniture Question

you ladies seem to know alot about this type of stuff so here goes... I inherited some wood furniture form my grandmother - a complete dinning room set from the 20's, which is beautiful. The problem is that my Hubbie and I got some nicks in it... now I was planning when we get a house we will get it all refinished but that might be awhile.... any suggestions on how to get the nicks out? Thanks in advance....

Re: Wood Furniture Question

this will sound NUTS but my mom is an antique dealer and it works. a brown crayon works WONDERS on nicks and scratches! just rub on and kind of 'rub in' w. your finger - youll NEVER see a scratch mark again! But big nicks...that I dont' know.

Re: Wood Furniture Question

Home Depot also sells the furniture markers. They come in a variety of colors to match whatever kind of wood it is. I've used them on a bunch of stuff!

Re: Wood Furniture Question

You can buy wood wax pencils that fill in nicks pretty well.

Re: Wood Furniture Question

Yep, when Huffman Koos tried to repair our dining room table (which was delivered in damaged condition several times) .. that's what the technician had in his case .. a crayon/pencil type thing .. the two times he came out .. that's what he used. (The first time, the table ended up going back anyway .. that's why he came back again another time).
