Work Around The House

Considering everything involved in the cleaning, fixing and care of your home how is the workload divided?

Re: Work Around The House

I think I end up doing more because I am impatient and cannot wait for things to be done.

Re: Work Around The House

I definitely do 90% of all housework - we're in an apt so there's no outside work to be done. I'm not looking forward to those arguments once we do have a house

Most of the time I don't care though - he works long hours and travels often, and I work 9-5 closeby, so I have more time to do laundry, etc.

We have worked out a schedule so that he does participate on the weekends with things. After about 4 yrs we're finally making some headway

Re: Work Around The House

I definitely do more with the cleaning, and ongoing maintenance of organizing. He's good with being handy as most of the time I have to nag him to death to get it done.

Re: Work Around The House

We sort of balance - I don't mind cleaning the bathroom or kitchen. He doesn't mind dusting (which I despise) or vacumming. He'll start the laundry when he gets home and I'll finish it when I get home. I do most of the grocery shopping, but I like it. I do a little more cooking then he does, we both do dishes. He takes care of the garbage and cleans out the kitty litter pan. I feed the cat.

We are REALLY balanced when it comes to house work.

Re: Work Around The House

I do all the laundry, ironing, straightening up, dealing with feeding animals, etc. We have somebody that cleans every other week, but I maintain in between of course. I do the dishes, dishwasher - all that stuff.

But he does the outside stuff - garbage, lawn, ligthbulbs - I guess we are pretty even, though it seems like I am picking up a lot more than he is!!!!!

Re: Work Around The House

I def do more during the week... I cut him some slack now though b/c he works full time and goes to school at night full time. But when it comes time to clean house, we split it (one gets upstairs, one gets the downstairs) which is more 50/50.

And I NEVER let him 'fix' anything, god no, it'll end up even more broken, LOL. I am more handy with that sort of stuff!

Re: Work Around The House

I do alot more but with deployments and everything else there are just times that he can't do things.
He does sometimes cook and mows the yard all the time though.
Him and I clean differently too. I can do it alot faster and his method is just putting it all into one room and having that one room a mess and the rest nice... I don't like that.. so I do it.
I don't mind.

Re: Work Around The House

I definitely do a lot more than he does. The main reason is that I work from home so I'm home more. Although he doesn't do much when he's home - he doesn't really pick up after himself or clean anything unless he's asked.

Re: Work Around The House

I do about 95% of the houseworka . He takes out the garbage and he cleans the table off after dinner. I am so impatient and a bit of a control freak so I need things to be cleaned and organized quickly

Re: Work Around The House

I think women will always do more. Roger does his share but some things I like a certain way so I prefer to do it myself.

He does laundry, I clean, he irons, we both cook.

Re: Work Around The House

I do:

dinner 75% of the time
dishes
laundry
cleaning
ironing
taking care of the pets
etc!!

He does:
some cooking
fixing things
vacuuming
and
killing bugs!!

He is sooooo old fashioned....he does 'help' sometimes, but as a few of you said, we women like things done a certain way and get impatient!

Re: Work Around The House

I have to praise my DH here, he does the majority of things around our house. I cook, but he does laundry, cleans, dishes, trash, etc. It just works out that way because I work longer hours, but the weeks when I am around more, I do more.
