Work Stress

Work Stress

Things have been really nuts at work lately. The stress is really getting to me. When I am home I feel like I can never relax. When I have days off I am worried I am going to get called to come in. I just don't know how to deal. We have been having some staffing issues, and problems. We had one employee leave suddenly due to personal issues, and now we have two who may be terminated because they are not doing their jobs. I am on call at all times. If someone calls in I am responsible to find coverage or go in myself. It is really upsetting me. The thing that bothers me the most is that I am the lowest paid manager at my company, and no where in my job description does it say that I am on-call. I have been with the company for four years in September and proved myself over and over again. However, they just won't promote my position to what it should be. I am doing the work, but not getting the credit or the recognition for it. It really stinks. If I was making the salary I should be, I wouldn't care about this half as much. We work salaried too, so I am always working for free when I get stuck there because of a situation. I am so sick of it. I don't know what to do. DH and I have health insurance through my job, and I don't want to put that at risk. I just really think it is time to find something else to do. I am burnt, and it is really making me depressed.

Is anyone going through this? And I am sorry to the girls who are out of work right now. I don't want to seem like I don't sympathize with you. I know I should just be thankful to even have a job right now, but it has really been getting me down.

Re: Work Stress

aw, i'm so sorry to hear how over worked you're feeling. A couple years ago when I worked as a weightloss counselor I felt kind of the same way. The hours were just ridiculous and I just felt like I was drowning there, kwim? I just needed a BREAK! I was getting seriously drained. I only lasted maybe 4 months like that before I immediately started looking for another job (this time going back to my teaching degree) and ended up finding something so much better with less hours and more pay. But when I gave my 2 weeks notice, they actually offered to promote me. Were they kidding? The managers there did get paid more, but they were even more overworked and burnt out than I was. And at this place it was like yours, how there's a salary, which means that many times they were working for 'free' and they ended up with no days off at all except the one day that the entire place was closed (on sunday). There's no way I could have handled that.

Sorry for this long response, I'm just saying that I know where you're coming from. I ended up realizing that for me it was best to get out of there, but I'm not sure what would be best for you due to the economy right now and the health insurance issue that you mentioned. I just really hope things get better for you

Re: Work Stress

I am so sorry, that sounds really stressful It seems like bc of the current state of the economy employers know people are scared to say anything, or leave bc they might not find a job as easily so they just take advantge. On the bright side, when the economy starts looking up, hopefully they will promote you and pay you as they should. And if they don't you are getting great resume building experince and will be able to get a better job

Re: Work Stress

start building a nice resume and cover letter slowly if you dont already have one. I cant believe you are just on call like that, so basically if your in like out of state you have to run back to work?? or if your doing groceries on your day off you must leave and return to work..how do they expect you to live liek that
