Work Vent Question for DH
DH works in CT so not sure if the same rules apply. But he has 9 vacation days left for this year and was planning on taking 5 of them to go with us to Florida for Thanksgiving.
Now his company is telling everyone that they cannot take any more vacation days this year, but they are also not allowing them to carry over more then the designated 3. So basically they are taking 6 vacation days away from him and not compensating him for them. Is that legal?
They are also expecting their salaried staff to work 60 hour work weeks without any extra compensation?
And while it doesn't effect DH, they are expecting the shop staff who is hourly to work 7 day work weeks.
Is this all legal?
DH has had it. We need to find him a new job.

Does his job has a policy and procedures manual? It's within the organization's right to determine sick/vacation/holiday as they are not legally bound to give you ANY.I cannot speak about the 60 hour work week though.

But if he is supposed to get accumulated vacation days that he saved all year and didn't use, can they just take them away without allowing them to roll over or offering compensation? Doesn't that go against the no 'use it or lose it' policy. I know CT has a no 'use it or lose it' policy.

I know it sucks but the organization makes its own policy and usually they throw in the disclaimer: we can change this when we want to. It's at their discretion really. My organization switched us over from a sick/vacation/personal to a PTO schedule which ultimately decreased everyone's time. They also made a cap on the number of days you can rollover, etc. But I'm going to assume that your husband's organization is doing it to save money so they don't have to compensate people. It's not illegal though. They have to pay you for the time you worked and that's that.
