Working out...Please help!

Working out...Please help!

I have been working out anywhere from 2-5 days a week for the past almost 2 months now. I haven't really changed my eating habits which are not bad to begin with, lots of fruit and veggies and nothing processed or white, all whole wheat and whole grians. I started working out to tone up and have more energy. My problem is that I weigh more now after working out than I have ever in my entire life! Everyone says it's bc muscle weighs more than fat. But how could I be gaining muscle so fast? And also, my thighs are becoming bigger. Never have they ever touched before and now they do! Can anyone tell me what's going on or what I'm doing wrong! TIA!!

What sorts of exercises are you doing? What do you typically eat?

Here's my thinking...yes Muscle weighs more than fat but you have to eat eat eat and lift super heavy to gain muscle. i know, I have been trying to do it for 6 months!

how often do you weigh yourself? Have you been this high weight consistenlty or just today? Plenty of things will influence our weight...water retention, bathroom situations (lol), horomones and diet.

Fruits and veggies are great but you need to make sure you are eating a balance. Are you trying to lose weight? What are your goals?

I am really into this and would be happy to help!

Well, I do 1/2 hr cardio on the elliptical or the bike or both. Then I do 1/2 hr on the weight machines. I sweat so much also. I'm not necessarily trying to lose weight bc I don't really have much to lose. I mainly started going to tone up and feel healthier. But now I noticed that I'm actually gaining and I'm hoping it is just water weight and bathroom habits LOL. I'm thinking maybe I have to alter my diet a little better? I do eat alot of chicken and turkey too and alot of salad. I think I may meet with a trainer once or twice to let me know what I'm doing wrong. This is the first time in my life that I have gone to the gym. I've been pretty lucky. I actually like it. But I think I would like it better if I could see some results

Ok so here is what I think...you are pretty lean no? In order to 'tone' up, you ahve to have muscle to begin with. This is something i didn't understand...i thought if i just lost weight i would automatically have a lean sculpted look. However, when I lost my weight i was just 'skinny.' That;s why I have been trying to build muscle and even though I am miserable being heavier than I would like, I will lose a few pounds and hopefully achieve the physique I was going for. Make sense?

My point is, going to the gym to tone up wil be pointless unless there is muscle there to begin with.

Maybe see a nutritionist. Sometimes when you are working out you actually need to consume more calories or maybe even though you think you have a good diet you are not consuming the right foods.

I think maybe your also doing to much weight training. The trainer at my gym was telling me that I should do 3 days a week of just cardio and only do 2 days with weights. Of course I want to lose weight, but the girls with the best bods at my gym do more cardio then weights.

Hmmm I'm not sure I agree with this. When I lost my weight i was only doing an hour of cardio a week. Yup, a week. It's all about diet, to lose weight, not cardio. If your diet is in check, cardio is just a helper.

I'd recommend 4 days a week of weight training, but that's just me!

Yeah I don't know, I am no expert. I am just going by what trainers have told me. Multiple trainers at multiple times in my life. But don't forget I am also a lot heavier then you to begin with so it might be different for me then for you.
