Ok, Yesterday was our anniversary and I am a bit upset about something... Not one member of our families called or sent a card...NOTHING! I just feel like I always make an effort for everyone else....

I'm sorry Christy - that really stinks. I would feel the same way if I were in your position. I hope you had a happy anniversary nonetheless!

Christy, I would be hurt too. You have every right to feel hurt and you are not overacting.
I know that is going to happen with my family since I don't talk to my mom anymore. So I am preparing myself.
Phil's family will remember.
Happy Anniversary!!!

Well my mother and I dont speak either. DH's mom just came over with a gift, so I feel better about his side a bit...but my family really bites!
However, DH and I had a nice time...I got some diamond earrings too! LOL

I hear you Christy!!! My family really ***** too!!! Well, my mom and my sister suck and that's why I can't have them in my life. They are negative, hurtful, and miserable people.
Phil, and I am sure your husband too, really tries to make up for the lack of my family. I got diamond earrings for Valentine's Day from Phil.
It can be hard though, you want your family to be happy for you and celebrate with you.
I do know how you feel and it's hard to deal with.
I remind myself how lucky I am to have such an amazing husband who would do anything for me to make me happy.

Re: Would you be hurt?
I guess I would be hurt if I expected it but I don't really excpect it from our family. Maybe my mom or in laws but we don't do anything for their anniversary so I guess I wouldn't expect it for ours. But like you said you make the effort and you would think people would do the same.
sorry

I'm the same - I wouldn't expect anything from my family for our 2nd anniversary. Our first, yes, but after that, I wouldn't expect anything.
But if you DID expect something and always do things for their anniversaries, then I'd be mad!

Re: Would you be hurt?
First, Happy Anniversary!!!
As for me, no honestly I would not be hurt. But I DO understand you being upset definitely.
I was just never used to acknowledging other people's wedding anniversaries. Actually, I never even heard of it until I met DH and his Mom started sending me reminders of all my SILs wedding anniversaries, which I actually found kind of annoying that I was being hinted at to buy them cards.
I've always felt that an anniversary is something special between those two people. Later on when you hit 25 yrs and big milestones like that, then yes, it's nice that it be acknowleged by others.
As for your first anniversary though, a nice card or a phone call from Mom and Dad or your MOH would've been nice though and it wouldn't have killed them, so I like I said, I do understand you being sad.

Re: Would you be hurt?
first of all, congrats on your anniversary! Glad to hear that you had a nice day with you DH celebrating at least - diamonds can make up for ANYTHING! As far as families/friends not calling, I'm sure it wasn't an intentional slight. Mayeb they just forgot or it's something they thoguth was just celebrated by you and your DH. I thought this way until our anniversary came, and the opposite happened, fam and friends all remembered and we got cards adn some gifts! I was more surprised than anythign since I wasn't expecting anyone to fuss other than DH and I - so maybe that's how your friends and family were thinking? It does kinda stink when you were waiting for them to acknowledge your special day, but think of it this way - the important part is that your DH remembered and you had a nice day with him!

Re: Would you be hurt?
I went through the same thing.....none of my close friends even sent a card.....and a bunch of family memebrs ignored it as well. i feel like i make such an effort to send cards to people to recognize birthdays and anniversaries and new homes......and it's not returned. it hurts...and i don't blame you for being upset by it

Thank you! I just know that I go out of my way to remember people, maybe I will lighten up on that.

Re: Would you be hurt?
i would be 50/50... only because im not use to celebrating other couples anniversary's. so i wouldnt be offended if nobody returned the gesture. its nice to have people love and support you on an anniversay day but just remember, they always love you no matter what day it is.

I agree. Though I do understand why you would be upset! I actually hope no one calls on our anniversary so we can just share it just the two of us!
