Would you be upset if...

Would you be upset if...

a) your husband applied for a credit card without telling/talking about/discussing it with you first?

b) on the application he put his parents address (where he lived before you got married) as his secondary address?

I would not be upset if DH applied for a credit card without my knowledge.

I will admit that I am having a hard time telling him about my finances. I still feel they are private.

As for his parents' address as a secondary address, as long as the home you share is first, it should be okay to have his parents' address as second. Especially if his parents have lived there for a million years and he lived there all his life and feels like it is a secure address.

A) Yes, I would probably be upset he applied for a new credit card without discussing it with me first. Once you get married, your credit is his credit and vice-versa. Opening another credit card could potentially affect your credit score to so you should certainly know about it. Also, to me opening a credit account is a pretty big financial decision akin to spending alot of money on something which I would definitely expect him to tell me about.

B) I don't think the address thing would bother me.

I feel the exact opposite. He may have opened it to transfer a high balance or to get points for a trip. But why his parents address? That seems weird.

No, I wouldn't mind him getting the card. I have my own.

As for the address? I don't know how I would feel. If he put it as primary, yes I would be ticked!

If he had to put a secondary address, I don't know what else he would use besides my mothers or his parents. What if you didn't have a second address?

I would not mind either. In fact my husband got a Amazon card (great card too) and i didn't realize it until we got great gift certificates from spending on it. We are very open about money and he is very smart about money so I don't really question what he does. But i do snoop sometimes just to make sure.

I would not worry about it, but mention it to him. I am sure he would have a valid answer...

Now if he put his parents address as the main address or had a different name then he would get a azz whooping.

First part no but I would probably be upset about the second part. It would make me feel like he would be doing things on the sly.

Oops misread. If it was the secondary address I wouldn't see that as a big deal.

I agree. I think it is a little shady to use his parents address

Applying for the credit card would bother me...but the address wouldn't bother me...only if you are renting an apartment...because if you move in a years or so then...my thought process would be that at least there is a permanent address where he could still receive mail.

I am not sure what you mean. I've opened credit cards to get a percentage off in a store. I have no intention of racking up a big bill on those cards and I would not expect to have to call FH from the store to check on it. If I forget to tell him, but go ahead and pay the bill, I can't see why he would care. A major purchase is a different story as is having debt that adds up.

Yes, I would be upset, especially if it was after we were married. IS the secondary address for mailing purposes if he doesn't pay the bill or is it a reference as to how long he lived there?

A credit card is not a matter to be left undiscussed, especially since both the inquiry and an open line of credit will affect a possible mortgage

No to the first question.
Why would you need a secondary address? I guess I would be annoyed if he put his parents as a primary, but why would he do that also? Wouldn't it make getting mail more difficult for him?

ETA: I said no to the first question because I know my dh is pretty responsible when it comes to spending $$. I am answering based on my situation...

No this isnt a store credit card - it is a regular response to a solicitation to open a credit card

Thanks for all the responses - i talked with DH yesterday and we worked it out. I just asked the question to make sure i wasnt off base on how i was feeling.
