So here is the background...my mom has 3 sisters. 2 that live on long island and one that moved to pennsylvania a few years back. They used to all rotate the holidays when we were all on LI and take turns doing christmas/thanksgiving etc. My Aunt Living in PA insists that she should still have the holidays every third year and that all of us (20 people) should trek down there to spend the day with them and then we all have to drive back. Its about a 4.5 hour trip so thats nine hours of driving in a day. Anyway. She got SOOO mad last time we didnt go and stopped talking to my family for over a year. This year she said it was her turn and we all decided to just bite the bullet and go. BUT we decided to do it Tomorrow instead of Christmas day to avoid the crazy traffic. So now there is a snow warning for 6-12 inches and we are all considering not going...I mean DUH! Who wants to be driving home from PA in a blizzard!! My aunt is going to flip out...we are right in not going , right? I feel bad but COME ON NOW!
UPDATE: We are not going...Nobody in my family is going it's just too dangerous...phew!

Re: WW III is about to start...
Oh gawd ... yeah that sounds like it could cause some problems! Normally I'd say I'm sure she would understand, but in this case I don't think she will!
Good luck!

That's crazy! Surely your Aunt has to understand with all the snow coming that this trip needs to be postponed! I'm with you on this!!!

Re: WW III is about to start...
No way, I wouldn't go! and she should completely understand.. I mean I am sure she wouldn't want to drive in a blizzard either. If she gets mad then she is just being immature. Is there another weekend you can reschedule for? Maybe after christmas?
We had some similiar family drama over the holidays this year as well. My aunts all take turns having xmas eve party.. there are 5 of them so basically every 5th year you have to throw the party. I think thats pretty fair! My aunt in charge of it this year decided that she just didnt want to do it.. for no real reason either, just didnt want to put in the effort. She was goign to ruin a 30+ year tradition! So my parents (who had the party last year) said they would have it again this year. BAH HUMBUG to these cranky people during the greatest time of the year!!!!

She should care more about your safety driving than whose 'turn' it is!

Re: WW III is about to start...
Lauren I dont know if this would make you feel any better or not - but if there is a blizzard forecasted & it was Christmas Day - I still would not be making the 2.25 hour drive down to my own parents house on LI. They'd have to understand that our safety comes 1st. & as far as your aunt...well...TBSS (too bad, so sad) - I tell my students this all the time...lol - your aunt will have to accept reality that horriffic driving conditions are going to keep you from going anywhere - much less a 4.5 hr commute to her home & then back again!
So sorry babe that you're going through this

Re: WW III is about to start...
Yeah safety is so important - I mean I understand why your aunt would be upset but when it comes down to it NOTHING is worth putting everyone on the road in a potentially dangerous situtation - but I do feel for your aunt - even if it's selfish she probably feels left out and like everyone's closer and together on LI . . try to sleep anyway - and it seems like making the call in the morning is wise!

Re: WW III is about to start...
If it helps my parents are on the road right now. They left FL at 2 am and are driving in the storm as it is coming up the coast.....they drove through horrible rain and are in the DC area now and it is starting to flurry......this storm is no joke....the only reason they are braving the conditions now is that it wont be any better til Monday.
Do not drive and do not feel bad!!!!!

Honestly, it's better to stay home then risk getting into an accident or something.
I think she should understand. I mean, it's a fricken snowstorm!

Re: WW III is about to start...
You are definitely not right to go, this is going to be an insane storm. Maybe you can change the day, though? And to save some stress of having to do all that driving in one day, could some people sleep over? My aunt has a pretty small condo but had about 17 of us sleeping over on two separate occasions for Thanksgiving. People just doubled up in the beds, slept on the couches, and youngins used the floor.

ITA!!!
driving in the snow is sooooooo dangerous. I'd say if you could stay over in PA it wouldn't be SO bad, but late tonight is when it's supposed to be at its worst. She should understand.
