Re: WWYD

i work in a super corporate office as well. some of the assistants occasionally wear sneakers. they both have foot issues though and i know this. If it was someone out of the ordinary I might be like oh did you hurt your foot?

but it's kind of b.s. because i've had BADLY sprained ankles and I would still never be caught dead wearing sneakers to work, especially with a suit. It's just not appropriate - black flats were invented for a reason.

Ignore it and see what happens i had to do that once cause i had a problem with my foot

Is this a first time occurence? If so, I wouldn't say anything. If it happens again, I would bring it up.

I would say something. Bite the bullet before it happens again. I would keep it casual, and just tell her that it is not appropriate. Ask her if she is having some issue, maybe something is wrong with her feet. If not then just tell her that some of the higher ups, higher than you would flip if they saw it so your just giving her a heads up. Play the good cop role.

MB is this the first time it's happened? If so I would see if it happens again, then say something.... maybe she has a problem and is too embarrassed to say something?

If you notice it every day this week then say something. Keep an eye on it.

I would just say, hey I noticed you have been wearing sneakers whats going on? and she may say on my feet hurt or something. Then just say well I really need you in something a little more corporate.

Is that ok??

if she reports to you then I would definitely say something given they are obviously not work appropriate but more like is something wrong with your feet (not sarcastically)

Maybe she's having a podiatry issue? I have problems with my feet and on bad days I wear sneakers to work.

Re: WWYD

PS- Are you in the city? I walk to work in my sneakers and occasionally leave them on for a few hours because I am lazy and know I can get away with it because I dont see people for hours sometimes. But I know its not acceptable so I try not to do it. Its more just laziness and comfort.

Re: WWYD

I would ask her if she's hurt her foot. Put it in a deleicate way like you're concerned for her especially considering the policy at your job.

Definitely do not ignore it becasue if she reports to you ultimately you're responsible for her and she reflects you.

Re: WWYD

She's been with you a while. She should know the policy.

Maybe she is having foot issues. Even so, she should have told you she needed to wear sneakers.

Re: WWYD

I used to manage a small staff of part time workers back in the day. There was a dress code, and I was the dress code natzi lol

If it's not in the code then you need to enforce that she doesn't wear them again. I would just say something. Even if she is a good employee. Maybe she is having trouble with dress shoes?? Maybe she had something wrong with her foot and can only wear sneakers.

I know I had to wear sneakers for a few days b/c I had orthodics put in and I could only wear them with my sneakers. I asked first though if it was okay to waer them to work.

Re: WWYD

I think you should just take her to the side and ask her why she is wearing sneakers. Maybe she thought that she could just get away with it for one day b/c she always dresses up?

Or maybe like others have said , she is having a problem with her feet? Just ask. I wouldn't take it in a bad way if I were her. I would be happy that someone mentioned something before a higher up caught her and maybe would've written her up!
