Re: accepting money from in-laws?
I don't know, I wouldn't do it. It doesn't sound like it would be worth it.

Re: accepting money from in-laws?
We like being able to say that we have done this or that on our own.
My Dad had some definitely opinions on our wedding- the response- you are not paying for it so you have no opinion
My parents each saw the house, luckily they both loved it and neither my stepfather or father saw anything structural that worried them. Any other comments would have been then same.
My MIL was just here and of course as she said she has some MIL comments to make, my response was ok but it's our house that we paid for and not what we had planned for that room.
I like having that indepence. It is hard sometimes but it is nice to know that DH are doing this together and only togther. JMO

They don't offer, but if they did, I wouldn't take it... too many purse strings attached!

Maybe his cousin's live the 'good' life courtesy of mom and dad but think of it this way: their friends must know mommy and daddy pay for everything. They probably think that the cousins are lazy and probably don't respect them too much.
It's a trade off - no $ from MIL or FIL but your purchases are your own, you earned the money by working hard! And that's something to be proud about!
