Re: Shameless repost from BHB...what do yout think...should I have done this differently?
I don't know...I definitely would have let them, but I know some Catholic churches have strict rules about that. Why didn't you want to let them have them? To me, the flowers were so expensive and used for such a short period of time, I would have loved if someone else could have used them (be it another wedding or memorial). I don't really understand the church rule of not letting them be taken out--if you pay, why can't you do with them what you want?

I cannot imagine not giving the flowers to them. I would feel awful if I didn't. Also, I would want to. Its really an honor.

Dh & I went to the cemetary on our way home the morning after our wedding ... my bo-k went on his sister's grave and our table flowers went on his parents grave.

I put a table centerpiece on each of my grandfathers graves, and at my grandmas grave.

I don't understand why you didn't feel comfy taking the flowers from the church? You paid for them right? The church didn't donate them? They are YOURS.
My friend was told by her church that they throw them away after weddings so you should coordinate if their is a bride before or after you that is getting married the same day to maybe use the same thing. Or you should take them afterwards.
A florist we looked at asked if we wanted to reuse our ceremony flower at our reception, maybe on the card table, etc. We left them, who knows what happened to them after though. If there was another wedding in the morning, I am sure they were disposed of for the other bride's flowers.

I understand that you are already married, I was just explaining what a friend of mine was told by her church. Sorry if I worded it funny. Anyway I was just saying that it was your decision to make and you shouldn't have felt funny taking them from the church.
Anyway it is over, I would let it go and not worry about it.

my friend actually had the alter flowers brought from her church to the reception at the sweethart table... but its your wedding and your decision so i dont think it would be that big a deal to say no, and not to feel guilty about them...

We took our alter flowers from the church and used them at the reception. As far as I was concerned, I paid the church well for their services, I didnt need to leave flowers there as well.
So yea, I think you probably should have let them take the flowers.
That said, whats done is done. You cant turn back time so don't beat yourself up about it.

i agree. we took our church flowers and re-used them at the reception. no reason to let them go to waste.

My church did not want any flowers left there. They would have just thrown them out. We took them to the reception.

I don't think you should beat yourself up for it. It is already done. You felt you did the right thing at the time and that is okay.

I don't think you should feel guilty about any of this. You did what you wanted and what you felt was right at the time. I might be in the minority here, but if you wanted the flowers to stay at the church, than that is where they should be. I don't think you should have to feel responsible for supplying the flowers for someone's memorial and I feel that it is tacky that they asked in the first place. It would have been a different thing if you offered.
I also think I can relate, because my DH has a family member who pushes and pushes - looked for a free place to stay for her family of 4 for the wedding, invited herself (and the other 3 people) to the RD, which was very small and just immediate family and was looking for us to get theater tix for them while they were in NY (which I am sure we wouldn't have been reimbursed for). She had to be told 'no' several times for each of these things and still insists on trying to mooch even more. So I guess my point is sometimes it depends on who is doing the asking too

Even if it is not a requiremnet of the church, the alter flowers are considered an offering to the church, so I don't blame you for not wanting them taken to the memorial.
Also, if I thought, they were just trying to be economical I woudl have been annoyed. It is different, if they were trying to make it symbolic, but I would have gotten something special for that purpose, that was part of the ceremony & then taken to the memorial.
