Re: My bestfriend is brainwashed....HELP! REALLY LONG
Ah I'm not sure I have any advice. Seems like there is very little you can do to help her but I don't think it would be weird to sit down and say that you are not okay being a part of this. it's hard bc you want to support someone who is clearly lost her sense of self but to be part of it is kind of agreeing that it's a good thing.. YIKES i have no real advice. . I don't think converting for someone in general is wrong - but in the case it seems pretty messed up - sorry you are going through this. . I feel like I've got no advice but wanted to give you some support!
oh just read the ETA - was wondering about the family support. . that's awful. . that makes it harder . I just edited a part of my reply out that said maybe if everyone confronted her. . but. .

wow...the only thing you can do is have a heart to heart with her and tell her how you feel. She is an adult and she is going to do what she wants regardless so all you can do is talk to her and see.

that is such a hard situation! i dont know how people end up in relationships like that! the best advice i can give you is be there for her no matter what, because when something happends she is going to need a support system! and if you guys have been friends forever you should be part of that support!
i get how frustrating it is when you know she is making a mistake and changing what she wants, but hopefully she will realize what he is doing to her! hopefully before she converts her religion!!!! or marrys him!!

Thanks girls! I agree that I should sit down with her. I don't even care that she is converting if it is what she truly wants, I just dont agree with giving up every part of urself to please a man or to have a man and that's what I believe she is doing. Ugh what a sticky situation!

Maybe it makes me a bad person but I would excuse myself from any involvement at all with the situation.

ITA with you, I just don't know how to go about it. I want to make sure to tell her that it's not just bc she is with him but bc of the way she behaved throughout my wedding planning. It's been years of buildup.

Well i feel that it's probably a losing battle but it seems like you will always feel good that you tried to help. . this sadly seems like a situation that could go from bad to worse for her (and of course i hope that doesn't happen) but if you at least express your concerns to her you will know you did everything you could and will have no regrets which might be as important for you as her

I would confront her...what do you have to lose at this point? You may help her realize this is not what she wants in the end you did not plan to maintain the relationship after her wedding so it is worth a try.
