Re: Girls who are not working.... advice please

I worry with both of us working!

i know you are worried, but im so positive that you have all the support in the world from your family and friends! they are there to help if need be.

something my parents keep telling me when im stressed about having enought money for the house, and worried that if we can barelly afford the house how will we ever be able to afford kids..and she tells me

'everything will work out some how, it always does'

try not to stress, but think how awesome it will be that you will be able to be home with the baby! (i wish there was a day that i could be a stay at home mom)

Dont let this stress you out!!! I would put together a budget. This will let you see how you will be able to pay the bills with the baby and only have DH's salary.

I worry and we both make very good money. I worry cause my job is a day to day thing. You just get to the point where thing you would normally spend money on just aren't important .

I would just sit down and do a budget and start cutting out things you really don't need.

Thats probably the best thing to do I think. Also, it would be awesome to stay home for at leats the first year with the baby. My SIL had to go back to teaching when her son was 3 months and she had a very hard time.

I recently read somewhere how its a good idea to try to live on one salary for a few months to see how things go. This way you learn how to budget differently, maybe you could try this to see how things go. Don't worry, money always stresses people out and your mom is right, everything always works out in the end.

very smart mommy...mine says the same thing!

With all of the BS that your job has been putting you through, you're probably better off! Plus you get to stay home with baby longer - which is a plus!
I cant say 'try not to worry about it' because then id be a hypocrite, cause i worry just the same! But it will work out the way it's supposed to. You guys will get through it, and it will work out better in the end!

Re: Girls who are not working.... advice please

I was so worried it made me physically sick. Not only was I not working but DH was on a salary cut and the house we so carefully calculated for our income suddenly we couldn't afford. We definitely went into some debt and are trying to work our way out of it, but we made it through. I am only working enough to make grocery money at Ritas Italian Ice, a poor use of my 2 masters degrees, but at least I am able to contribute. With editing, which isn't very steady, I am starting to dig myself out of debt.

Its tough but try not to worry, you will get through. In today's economy be happy one of you are working because many homes are dealing with multiple unemployment. Sadly I think single incomes in a household is going to be the norm again soon.

Try not to worry! Worst case scenario, I'm sure you can get a part time job waitressing or in a bakery or something local...hell, there are days I wish I still did, cash is king! Yeah, it's degrading, a waste of a degree, whatever...but I made more take home when I waitressed part time 4 days a week than I do in 40+ hours in a salaried job using my degree, so food for thought.

Ali is onto something....You should most definitely consider the bakery thing! Your cakes look amazing..you've got talent. This could all be a blessing in disguise!

I agree with the whole living on one salary now. Are there things that are luxuries that you can cut out or replace with other things? DH and I are saving like maniacs now because it looks like we are probably going to be moving to NC sometime next year. We've just learned to move on without some of the things we thought were necessities but have found to be luxuries.

Also, kind of personal but are you hoping to BF the baby? That would save you a ton of money. Also, cloth diapers would really cut monthly expenses as well.

well I'm working but DH is not and hasn't been for all of grad school so he's been looking since he graduated in december but nothing so we are stressed - esp as we're going to start trying for a kid soon and it goes crazy from there bc I couldn't do my job and be pregnant (after 5 months) but we just decided we couldn't wait more so are really just counting on the universe helping us out. . but practically I do agree with making the budget and just starting to see where you can save instead of spend. . other than that I'll go with Gina's MEGA MILLIONS!

Hang in there and cutting classes like that is SO wrong - I'm sure you are an AMAZING teacher and those kids will lose out!

Trust me things will work out. Anthony was out of work months before the wedding as well as months after. Without any income cause a whole thing with workmens comp. On top of it my salary is nothing and I REALLYmean that and we survived. Yes we didnt live together at first but I still paid all his bills, etc...

If we can do it anyone can

Re: Girls who are not working.... advice please

We actually are living off of one salary (his) right now... and able to pay bills etc....

The reason we were doing this was because originally, we were going to look into adoption, and wanted to see if we could afford to save for it...

now we are doing it because we were putting towards a house...

We are very very frugal, and have 'spending' per month, that we are allowed etc.

i think i am just more concerned with the whole, no extra cushion thing...

But thank you girls alot for your advice. i wish i could do something with baking but, you need money to start things like that... as of right now it's just family and friends :(

Just tough and worried. i've had a job sicne I was 12 years old...

But then again.. never had a baby right?

maybe this is a blessing...

thank you girls

I agree with this- this is the way to go! It does sound cliche but it will truly work out! (I saw you deleted your post but based on the comments, I got the gist of the post) Everything will be fine Jenny!

Re: Girls who are not working.... advice please

I hope everything works out. DH has not been working and we are living off of my salary. Its been a little tight but we are getting by. Hopefully you will find a another job. I know its tough (DH has been looking for a while) and stressful but at least your DH is working. At least you will have time to spend with the baby and the way you used to describe your job they did not seem to treat you well. I hope you find a job that treats you better good luck
