Re: yoga
just wanted to mention that I think buying the mat is a great idea- i got one for our house at sports authority
i definately wouldnt want to go mat-less, just wouldnt want to put my head down on mats or carpets

thanks! i've been wondering about the sock thing... i wasnt sure if it makes it harder if you wear socks b/c i would think you would be slip sliding around

The yoga mat I had gave me grip.

Re: yoga
Yoga is good stuff. I have my own mat, you want to buy a yoga mat and not an exercise mat b/c it need to be sticky. I wear socks until I start slipping, then I take them off. I will put them back on for the 'corpse pose' at the end, when you basically just lie down. I like Yoga Rocks in Oyster Bay, but sometimes I just do it at home.

I do the Bikram yoga, it's terrific, you feel fantastic afterwards, but the first week is tough b/c your using muscles you never knew you had...but it's helped me w/ my posture and back problems.
Alot of runners also say it's done amazing things for their knee issues.
Just be prepared to sweat and drink plenty of water before hand

Re: yoga
I used to go twice a week religiously and I loved it. It wasn't a super advanced class but I used to feel great when I came out of there. My gym had really nice mats, so I didn't need one. I always had an extra towel. You know I can't remember if I went barefoot. This was awhile ago. I know I used to take a step class before it and I remember taking off my sneakers. I also had these little yoga shoes, so maybe that's what I wore. I also have these yoga socks that have the rubber grip on the bottom so you don't slip. I also have my own mat now for when I tried it at NYSC. I miss it. Have fun and go at your own pace!

I like yoga but prefer pilates now. Either way here is some advice...
Tight pants Yes barefoot I bring my own yoga matt. Be sure to get the flat one and not the puffy one.
