Ok, since you girls are over the other thread, lets get on with todays topic.
I was watching TLC over the weekend (the channel, not the group) and there were multiple commercials for this new show coming next year where camera crews follow around little 'beauty queens' in their everyday life and throughout their competition process. Many of the mothers are portrayed poorly (almost like stage moms) and a few clips show them defending themselves saying that they are just helping their child get a head start on self confidence and how to establish self esteem.
What are you thoughts on this? Do you think a 2 years old asks to be a beauty queen? Do you think that this type of competition is healthy for a child? How do you feel about the cosmetic aspect of it? The make-up? the fake teeth? the belly bearing outfits? Is there any difference between this and putting a small child in ballet classes or dance classes at a young age?

I agree with you. One of the moms on another pagent show was trying to teach her 8 year old how to flirt with her eyes.
OMG that is horrible!

I think its ridiculous and disturbing..Let kids be kids..and enjoy their childhood..and I also feel like it just contributes to the horrible message in this society..all about having to be perfect, and beautiful and thin..

I feel that perverts are everywhere and I feel like the more we exploit our children especially in the media, the more of a chance our child can be kidnapped or stalked. Its so easy to locate people these days.

i think its honestly really creepy and its taken way too far these days - with the make up, hair, fake teeth, and outfits.....i think it just got out of control and creepy - making 2 year olds look like mini women - that is CREEPY to me....

Yeah i dont care for it. I dont understand why these little girls if they are going to be in a pageant cant be dressed and look like normal little girls. Ive watched the hbo specials and other shows about this on other stations and i am bothered each time. They go too far, I mean they spray tan all these girls, no matter how young they are. They wear fake hair, TONS of make up which i dont see how that is good on such a young girls skin. They even wear the flippers, those fake teeth if they are missing any. Those dresses cost thousands of dollars. I mean they are teaching these girls that this is what beauty is, and giving them the message that the prettiest girl is better. These girls at such a young age become so competitive to be better than others. I remember there were these 2 young girls who were rivals, and they were pretty young. Not only that but all their time is put into this. They have to practice so much while at home doing their dance routines and how to walk. They hire coaches to teach them this too, they travel and go to these pageants all the time. The family uses their money for this, i mean between the dresses, and all the outfits they have to wear during a pageant, hair, airbrush make up, tanning, flippers, coaches, then paying for the hotel and flights to go to these is a bit much. I saw some shows where it even caused so much problems between the parents. The mothers spend all their time and money on this and causes a strain on the marriage.
Some mothers i saw on the show seemed normal but that was just some. I mean some of them were so out there though and its them who want this. I dont think a 2 year old says 'i want to be in a pageant' 2 year olds dont know what that is, a mother has to introduce it into their lives.
