Younger bries/ newlyweds...

Younger bries/ newlyweds...

Do you constantly hear about how 'young' you are to be married? I know these days people are waiting longer to get married, but still I find it rude that you feel the need to share your opinion on my age.

I know I shouldn't let it bother me, but I just wish someone could ask about the wedding or newlywed life & just say 'congratulations!' without having to say something about my age or ask how old I a for once. I'm just wondering if anyone experiences the same thing.

i used to get it all the time, especially when we first got engaged, it was really annoying i can definitly relate. But no one has said it to me a while now, prob. because they get that i dont really care what they think lol. Just let it slide off your shoulder, people will always give you unsolicited opinions/advice.

I'm 25, so not that young, and I still hear it all the time. So don;t feel bad, I think people just like to stick the two cents into everything.

I'm 23... I don't hear it a LOT, but on occasion... but this one woman at work is so condescending about my age... I mentioned in the course of conversation once that I had chosen a wedding band without diamonds because I have plainer tastes and don't really feel comfortable wearing all that 'bling,' and her response was 'oh... well... that's because you're still young.'

What???? I was flabbergasted by that one. It was SOOO rude and condescending!

People are just idiots. I'm 30 and DH and I have been together 10 years, so I have the opposite problem, where everyone says 'it's about time!'. You can't win! I think people will say something stupid no matter what. Don't sweat it. As long as you're happy, who cares?

Wow that's so rude! What does that have to do with your age?!

Yes! I absolutely agree!!! DH and I were engaged at 22 and I was harassed for what felt like forever.
It has calmed down a lot now since the wedding.

I am 25 and I hear it on occasion I find it so annoying. Right before I got engaged (at 23 years old) my best friend went on and on about how she cannot believe one of her other friends is getting married. Low and behold 3 months later I get engaged. This is why you should always think before you speak.

You're absolutely right with this! There are always people who have opinions.
I am sure everyone got at least one of these after announcing their engagement........
1. You are so young
2. It's about time
OR
3. But you barely know each other
(Sigh)

I'm 3 mths shy of being 28, but most people think I look about 20......so I get it alot from people who don't know my age, 'oh you just got married, you're so young'......then this one is great.....I'm with my bff Mimi last Friday the night before her wedding we're getting our nails done and this jerky woman doing my nails goes 'oh why did you get married so young, do you have a baby?'....... first off I find out she's the same age as me, and I said 27 isn't THAT young, and second of all, there are girls who get married all the time at 21, 22 etc......that doesn't mean you have a baby at home just b/c you got married young, like you were pressured into it or something.....I just hate ignorance!!!!

I don't get it a lot because no one ever thinks I'm as old as I am. They always think I'm a good 3 years older because of the way I act (I'm so 'mature'...whatever that means). But I just started a new job and met one of the VPs for the first time. He saw a picture of DH on my desk and asked if it was my boyfriend. Do I not look old enough to have a husband? Now that we're married and I can call him my husband, it annoyed me.

I got engaged at 22 after 5 1/2 years with DH. No one really said that I was too young because they assumed that we would have a long engagement. But when they found out we were getting married only 8 months after we got engaged, THEN everyone started saying, 'You are soo young!!! What's the rush???' It really annoyed me. By the time we got married I was 23 & DH was 27 & we had cel;brated our 6 year anniversay. I was like 'After 6 years, why wait?'

Just ignore what people say. You did what was right for you, no one else.

That's part of it... we DO have a baby together. She has NOTHING to do with us getting married. Which is why we waited until she was 2 & didn't run down the aisle when the test came out positive, but try getting anyone to belive that.

When people say I'm young & they ask my age, I know they are expecting me to say 22 or 23 because when I say 20 they look like they are going to fall over. People need to learn to be tactful!

I'm 28 and DH and I have been together for 8 years, so we would hear the opposite. Since I look about 20/21 though, I get both comments. In all honesty, you can't win so I just ignore it.

I got married at 26. One of my coworkers (I'm an attorney) told me 'But you're just a baby!' She's the only one who has commented on my age. She's the only one who commented on my age. I thought we were about average (or maybe on the young side of average) for getting married. The vast majority (all but 1) of our friends are single.

I love how people feel it's appropriate to comment on someone's life choices, as if they were asked for their opinion...

I never hear a word from friends & family because they know us & they know we did what is best for us & makes us the happiest. It's the people I don't know well & the co-workers who have no business butting in that always have something to say!

I heard that from a few people who don't know us well when I first got engaged (but most of them thought I'm younger than I am). Most people who knew my husband and me said it was about time.
