Real Long Island Wedding: Donna and Tom
Tom and Donna grew up together in Rocky Point, NY. Their friendship started in 1988 when Donna asked Tom, a grade older, to her 8th Grade “Moving Up Dance”. He accepted her invite and picked her up to go to the prom in a Limo. All throughout high school they stayed in touch, occasionally they went on dates, and although there was interest in one another they always remained friends. This continued a few years after high school, whenever they bumped into each other in town, they would get together, but the timing to date further just never seemed right.
Almost 20 years goes by. Tom was living in Florida and Donna resided in Rocky Point. In May of 2013, Tom, who was not a regular Facebook user, went on the site to connect with his NY friends for an upcoming wedding on Long Island. Tom sees Donna on Facebook as a “friend he may know”. She accepts his friend request. They message each other and briefly catch up. Tom mentions that he will be in town for the wedding of his best friend, who Donna also knows from high school. He invites Donna to meet up with him and the other Rocky Point friends at a local restaurant a few days before the Wedding. She accepts his invite.
It was a great reunion, and they haven’t missed a day without speaking since. The first 7 months of their relationship was long distance. In December 2013 Tom moved up from Florida, and they decided to move in together in their hometown. 8 months later, and 26 years after their first date, full circle Tom asked Donna to marry him. The timing was right and they wed on November 1, 2014 at the Hallockville Museum Farm.
