07 bride LOOKING FOR 06 ADVICE

ok here's the situation... my cocktail hour starts at 1, my church is about 30-40 minutes away from my hall and my church will start at ether 10:45 or 11 depending on if there is a funeral that morning or not. We are only having a ceremony not a mass but it will still be about half hour for the ceremony. now my question is do I or dont I have a recieving line. Im figuring start time at 11 just in case .. which puts me at 11:30 leaving there with no recieving line... and we wanna take pictures and make our coctail hour. i dont wanna be rude to guests but i just dont see time
11-11:30 church
11:45-12:30 hall if we have a recieving line
12:30-1 HALF HOUR FOR PICTURES... is that enough ... ughhhhh
SO NEED ADVICE
who had a recieving line and how long did it take to do so ... please help very desparate for solutions

IF INVITES ARE NOT OUT I WOULD ASK THE HALL TO MOVE THE TIME TO 1 30 OR 2 IF NOT YOU SHOULD HAVE THOSE PICSI THINK ITS IMPORTANT. CALL YOUR HALL UP

I'll tell you what I had, I don't know if this will help
11AM ceremony (we asked him to keep it between 1/2 hour - 45 mintues), followed by receiving line
to Fox Hollow (I would say we arrived around 12:15
CH started at 12:30, so we ended up missing our CH but were done with pics by 1:30 for the reception to start.........i don't know if that helps?? are you willing to miss your CH or take pics before?
PS i have been to plenty of wedding where they don't have a receiving line, they just had someone telling people as they exited the church that the bride and groom would be greeting them at the reception

You won't have enough time of 30 minutes to take pics. I would skip the receiving line.

Re: 07 bride LOOKING FOR 06 ADVICE

we want to use our cocktail hour to meet and greet our guests so that we can enjoy our reception that much more... plus all the food that will be there FH is like ummm we're going
i like the idea though of having someone telling our guests that we will thank them at the reception but what about the people who dont come to the reception and are only there for the church

no, you don't have enough time.

my CH started at 1, my church started at 10am and i STILL missed 45 minutes of my CH taking pictures. and the church and RH were about 20 min away from each other.

skip the receiving line or move your church up an hour.

30 minutes will not be enough for pictures. I would leave at least 1 hour for pictures. 2 hours would be ideal.

well i dont have 2 .. but i'm attempting to work on an hour ... and the times for the church and hall really cant be moved it just a matter of traffic and how fast i can get my family and bridal party to move

I would skip the receiving line. We did, and although i didnt get to speak to a couple of people who just came to the church, we had time for pictures, even though i still felt rushed. we made it infor the last 15-20 minutes of our CH.

10:30 - full mass
can't remember what time we were on our way
12:20ish - arrived at Watermill and started photos
1:40 - got to CH (didn't get any food bc was talking to guests)

Re: 07 bride LOOKING FOR 06 ADVICE

i think we might have to skit it... but like do we make an announcement or anything to show the people who are at the church that we are not trying to be rude just on a time contraint

Re: 07 bride LOOKING FOR 06 ADVICE

i just dont want people to think that we arent grateful that they came

many people dont do receiving lines! you dont have to make an announcementT we thanked our guests for coming at the CH and enjoyed the reception. we took 2 hours for pics! you cant count on getting everyone that needs to be there by a specific time, BP and family, with traffic its just too unpredictable. good luck!

You definately don't have time to get to do a receiving line & get to your hall in time for pictures & your CH. I would skip the receiving line & just go straight to take pictures. Don't worry about what others think, it is your wedding!!!

my sister had the same time schedule as you and she didnt have a receiving line. my parents stood outside the church so everyone would walk out to them but people still stopped in the foyer to say hi to all the BMs..... even though she skipped it, she still missed her whole cocktail hour taking pictures.. I would give yourself more time if you could

I think that is a great idea!

I do not think that you should have the receiving line. You should go straight to the RH to take pictures. I got all of my pictures done before the CH and we then went to the last 20 minutes of our CH to say hello to people. By getting all of the pictures done before hand we were not interrupted once to leave the reception to take some pictures. I hate when photographers do that, so needless to say I think the pictures taking and times were just perfect. So I would highly recommend skipping the receiving line (which people will NOT think is rude) and get to the hall to take your pictures.

Re: 07 bride LOOKING FOR 06 ADVICE

thank so much for the advice... i'm def thinking of skipping it but before i make my final decision im going to talk to my photographer and church and see if we can work things out like have pictures of me and my family taken before the church or see if the church can kind of rush up the recieving line... something and then i'll decide. An 07 bride also mentioned to me to put an insert into the program thanking everyone ahead of time and explaining about the time constraint which i think is a good idea so that people at least know what is going on...

Next thing though is if i do skip the recieving line my flower girls were gonna hand out bubbles for the guests to blow as we came out of the church i guess this can't happen either if we skip it so now i have to come up with something else for them to do

imho - i feel its kinda rude not to do a receiving line - and actually in hindsight i am glad i did it - because that was the only time i actually got to see some of my guests.

my avice would be to take pics during your cocktail hour.

You will not have enough time to have a receiving line.
It really is not rude not to have one as long as you make it a point to see everyone during the cocktail hour or reception. You want to have plenty of time for pictures b/c you will never be able to go back and catch those special moments again.
D and I made it a point to go to our cocktail hour and that is where we thanked our guests.
Good luck.
