09'er with a Q: What size are most dress samples at bridal shops??

Hi Girls. I know the majority of you have gotten your dresses so I figured I would ask you. I am terrified that I am not going to fit in any of the dresses when I start looking!!! I know they run about 2 sizes too small, but I have been hearing that the samples you try on are TINY!! Like people who are a street size 4 or 6 just fit into the samples?! I am a street size 10/12 am I going to have a problem???

I think they ususally run towards the bigger side. I am usually a 2 and had to be majorly clipped into every one. Also, if you go to Davids, they have samples of all their dresses in every size.

I have seen the majority between a 10 and 12

thanks for responding girls.....this sounds like its going to be a miserable experience not fitting into the samples

I wouldnt worry about it...I think you will be fine!

I went to at least 6 different bridal salons and the Filenes Running of the Brides, and all of them had mostly size 10s. There were a good amount of 12's too. Maybe a handful of 6's and 8's. You should be fine!

I saw 8 10, 12's it's not the best experience when you can't fit into them. I think it's awful they do that. i say better to have to clip someone in rather then have them not be able to zip it!

I shopped in RK bridal and fit in most things - I am a street size 10. Most of their samples are 10 - 14 and since thier stuff gets some wear and tear, they def stretch out.

One piece of advice - I fit perfectly in the size 12 they had in my dress, and when I ordered, they said i needed a 14. I was like no, I fit in the 12 and they said it stretched out from all the try-ons. I ordered the 14, lost a little weight and it fits perfectly - definately listen to them when they say the samples get stretched. If I had ordered the 12 I would be in big trouble now!

don't panic, they'll just clip you into the dress. lots of girls run into this problem.

i think you will be okay. Yes, most samples are 10's and 12's which may be cut a little small, but when i went with my mom (who i believe is a larger street size than you are), surprisingly, we were still able to get an idea of what the dresses would look like on her. (she tried on mostly Aline dresses with a strapless bodice...similar to a bridal gown style) The dresses wouldnt zipper in the back (some would, some wouldnt at all). but dont worry....you can still tell! They will definately find a way for you to squeeze into those samples!

You'll be fine.

I was able to try on all styles -EXCEPT the trumpet or mermaid. I'm a 10/12 too, but I'm hippy and couldn't get the sample on (it seemed to me that all the samples of this type of dress were smaller- like a 6/8)

If you happen to go gown shopping at Lillette's in Baldwin and David's Bridal (sorry those are the only two stores I went to for gown shopping!) they have all sizes in samples.

The gown I was trying on (and ordered) has a corset back and I squeezed into a sample size 18 where I wear a street size 24- so don't worry!

David's has all sizes so you don't have to worry there.

you will not have a problem - the people with problems trying on fitted gowns are 14 and up unless you go to a store that carries plus sizes which if your a 14 doesn't work for you.

The key is if it is fitted. Most samples come in a size 10/12 street 8/9 maybe 10 true depends on the fitting of the dress.
