You QOTD of the day is...

Are there any wedding customs you plan on incorporating into your wedding at the ceremony or reception? These could be family traditions/ethnic traditions. This also doesn't have to just be on the day of. If during certain events (i.e. shower & b-party) you have certain traditions, tells us about those as well!

If anything, I am going completely against all tradition in the italian culture and Irish culture This is what made me think of this question.

I was researching online about italian wedding traditions/customs and I am doing the opposite of everything I'm supposed to.

Both Italian and Irish tradition say getting married on a Saturday is bad luck and getting married in May is bad luck. Well I am getting married on a Saturday in May and in my view, the two bad lucks negate themselves, so it's actually good luck lol.

I'm supposed to wear a blusher over my face to hide it from the groom and to ward off evil spirits. As of right now, that's not happening.

The wedding cake should be all white... ours won't be.

It's italian custom for the guests to tear the bride's veil in order to steal some of her good fortune... if anyone goes near my veil or dress I'm going to dropkick them.

Bouquet Toss and Garter Toss... ain't happening.

Oh, and against my mother's will, my shoes will not be white.

So I guess I'm not a tradition kind of girl.

Well hopefully it rains on your wedding day, because for the Irish that is good luck! LOL... i guess since it rains so much in ireland they need to come up with something! LOL

I'm actually a fan of the blusher...

One Polish tradition is to pin a bill to the bride's dress in order to have a dance with her... we're not doing that.

I hadn't really thought about ethnically specific traditions and neither of us really have strong family specific traditions, so I guess I'm not really sure yet outside of the typical American wedding tradtions that have been derived from everywhre else (eg, wearing white, Something old something new, unity candle, Dad walking bride down the aisle, etc)

If you count inviting your enormous italian families than I guess I am a traditional birde!

Haha, aside from that I haven't really thought about it. I plan on wearing a veil/blusher, but I think I am going to wear blue shoes

We're doing nothing traditional. I'm just not that kind of person.
FH would do everything his parents say he should do if it wasn't for me saying we don't have to do anything WE don't want to do.

So with that...
No church wedding
No Blusher
No Tarantella
Etc.

We will be starting our own tradition - do what makes YOU happy. Not what you feel like you HAVE to do in order to please everyone else.

Sounds bitchy, I know. But whatever lol

I haven't really thought much about it, but in general, we're pretty traditional people, so I'd say we'd be sticking with most of the traditions

For the most part Im sticking to the bouquet toss, garter toss...and the large italian family. Other than that, Im pretty much straying from traditions.

For example:

I cant get married in a church, my FH is not catholic and is divorced...and that didn't go over so well. lol.

I insisted I have a best man. I have four sisters...and One is always saying she's the man, so I told her she could be my best man. lol. Silly I know, but my younger sister is my MOH already.

I don't think this is a tradition but it's something i'd like to incorporate...i'd like each of my 3 brothers to walk me down a part of the aisle before they get me to my father.

we are prob going to stick to throwing the bok and garter. At CH we may have some Puerto Rican food such as fried plantains etc. and of course some italian options for my side of the family. I'd also like to keep the tradition of bride and father dance and groom/mother dance.
