10 things I learned by planning a wedding and getting married!

10 things I learned by planning a wedding and getting married!

What I learned from planning my wedding and getting married:

1) The ups and downs of wedding planning will make you stronger and will teach you things about your FH if you let them.

2) Enjoy planning. All of the hard work is for the one day of our life where you will proclaim your love, seal your future and have your family and friends together. Make it special, make it you and enjoy every step.

3) Add special touches for your guests, especially those from OOT. This will seal the fact that your wedding will be remembered.

4) It's not the amount of money you spend, it's the meanings behind things and the union of two people that really matters.

5) Choose vendors you trust and go with your gut. These people can make or break your day. Don't stress over negative reviews (there are two sides to every story). You choose these people for a reason. And let them do their jobs. They are professionals, we're just obsessed brides! Allow them to provide input. Let them help you. (PS - I love each and every single vendor I worked with because I chose each one for a reason.)

6) Accept that not everything can be perfect. That's life, that's weddings. And it's beautiful if you really think about it.

7) The things you think aren't perfect will not matter the day of. And they might actually make you laugh and smile.

8) Remain calm. While planning and especially throughout the day of. If you don't, you'll miss things. Capture every single moment the day of. Take it all in. It's a beautiful experience.

9) At some point in your ceremony and during your reception, sneak away with your husband and watch. Look at Grandma dance, watch your cousin nearly dive into the chocolate fountain. Observe people having fun. They're having fun at the party you threw, the party you planned, and the party in celebration of your union. Enjoy it. It's beautiful. It's special. Take it all in.

10) Be who you are. Be who you are as a couple. Do not get caught up in what bridal magazines say, what other girls are doing, what family says is right. It's your day. Do it your way. Make it your own. It's your party. You'll never have another party like it. Go big or go home. And I don't mean financially big. Go big with your heart, go big with your love for one another. Make it the best day of your lives.

Enjoy it. If it rains, consider if a gift from up above. If Aunt Mildred can't make it, know she is there in spirit. Don't let little things bring you down. It is your day. Take it in. Smile. Laugh. Cry. Be yourself.

These are my words of wisdom. My wedding was the best day of my life. Not one thing went wrong. I smiled. I laughed. I cried. I loved every second and I hope each and every one of you girls has the same experience.

Re: 10 things I learned by planning a wedding and getting married!

One of our GM pulled us aside when we got engaged and told us two things:

1) get video - you might not watch it often but it's a gift to see relatives no longer with us on tape and to watch the day years down the road

and

2) take it all in. the day goes too quickly. back up and watch. all of your hard work seems worth it when you see your guests having a blast.

so, we did those things and he was so right. so now, i pass them on...and more!

you put a very positive spin on things. i am glad too that we booked for video and i do want to stop and watch and take it all in.

meanwhile, i am cranky, anxious, in hives.
i feel like its everyone else's wedding but mine/ours.

That was great! I think we all get caught up in it and forget what the day is really about. I even find that I have to remind myself from time to time.

That was really beautiful...you made me get a little teary-eyed!!! I love all of your advice...especially the one about sneaking off with your new husband and just observing what is going on around you...my cousin who got married this past october recently shared the same advice with me...she told me that shortly after the ceremony, I should make it a point to be alone with FH, even for a few minutes...I plan on this...thank you again

That was one of my main reason for getting video...there will be people years from now who I will want to remember and also for the things that I want to see over and over again....even if it is just on our anniversary every year, I want to be able to....that was probably the most important piece to me personally

Honestly, we made our floor plan around that advice. We set it up so our dais was looking out towards the guests. We kept going back there and pretending to eat/drink/etc. and we just watched. We also went up to the bridal suite for like 20 min during the cocktail hour and just enjoyed the fact that we were married. Just be sure to take it all in. If you let it, it's the most relaxing, beautiful day!
