10 Wedding Day Survival Tips!

Tip #1: Avoid last minute, drink laden bachelor or bachelorette blow-outs. Schedule the bash at least one week prior to the ceremony. Twice I've witnessed woozy grooms who couldn't stand at their wedding rehearsal. Both brides were furious, and one not so quietly told the groom he'd better be standing tall the next day or else. Fortunately he was and we didn't get to find out the or else part, but I bet it would have been loud and nasty. Needless to say that couple is now divorced.

Tip #2: If the dressing room at the church or wedding venue can't be locked have someone secure the wedding party's purses and wallets. Thieves love weddings because everyone is paying attention to the ceremony or party and they know people will leave wallets and purses in the dressing rooms or unattended at the reception.

Tip #3: Despite the stress and expense maintain a sense of humor. A friend's parents, who paid for two lavish weddings over the course of nine months, danced down the aisle after the bride and groom to the tune of, Happy Days Are Here Again.

Tip #4: Do use bird seed instead of rice for the gauntlet run to the limo. Rice expands in the little birdies tummies and can kill them.

Tip #5: Make sure the limo driver doesn't leave the doors locked as you are being pelted with said bird seed.

Tip #6: Clearly spell out any specific dietary practices or restrictions you follow when planning the menu with the caterer. One friend, who helped serve at weddings to make extra cash, once substituted prawns for a smoked salmon appetizer when the fish wasn't available at the last minute. His beautiful display elicited gasps from the guests. Of course, until the bride's mother rushed up and snatched the bowl off the table and explained the problem, the specifics of Jewish dietary laws eluded him.

Tip #7: If you are a do-it-yourself type and are taking the cake from the baker to the reception plan your drive to avoid railroad tracks and don't transport the cake in the trunk of your car.

Tip #8: Don't smash wedding cake into your beloved's face just because it is trendy. As Mom said, 'Just because your friends jump off a cliff doesn't mean you have to do it too.'

Tip#9: Take time to enjoy your party.

Tip #10: Don't expect too much from your wedding night. Most couples collapse in bed and fall asleep from exhaustion after all the stress and excitement of the big day.
