11ers....Best piece of advice for future brides...

Original post by 2010BTB

This might be a little early to start this for the 11ers but give a little advice that either was passed on to you or that you figured out during the whole wedding planning process.

1. start your DIY's early..... I didnt listen to this and the day we were to bring everything to the reception hall I was frantically working on menu's.

2. Remember that its your FH's day to, I know I had to stop myself sometimes from doing things that I would want and ask him if he was ok with it.

3. Try and go to your cocktail hour. we took photos before the ceremony and went to our cocktail hour, and loved the food and getting to say hi to everyone.

4. DO NOT LET FMIL OR MOB DRIVE YOU NUTS WITH SEATING CHART AND GUEST LIST. I wish I had taken this one to heart. MIL wanted to invite people who had invited DH to their sons Bar Mitzvahs... 20 years ago. Could not get her to go over seating charts with me, then the day they were due suddenly told me that so and so has a feud with such and such and wont sit with them.

5. Remember to take a date night with FH, remember why you are going through this stress.

6. Dont get caught up in trying to keep up with the joneses. There are a lot of things you will see people doing on this site that may not work for you. Its tempting to look at reviews or hear about slipper baskets/bathroom baskets/ custom programs/ chocolate menus and say 'ooohhh, I so want that' (cause I did it), then realized it wasn't feasible for us, or something we really would be interested in. If its something you really want and would make the day special for you, go for it, but they arent always necessary.

7. Other than you, and maybe FMIL, MOB and MOH, people will not notice if your menus match your linen which goes with your bridesmaids dresses and ties into your bouquet. We tend to make ourselves nuts on the tiny details that seem so important, that day of, most people don't even notice.

example: we had winter theme, I wanted the lights as we walked into the reception hall to mimic light reflecting off ice..... no one knew what it was, other than 'pretty'

8. don't let anyone make you feel like your wedding wont be as nice or as special if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. There were some people who would ask the cost of our hall, me wanting to be helpful to those looking would tell them, and they would start to sound like my wedding wouldn't be nice cause it wasn't $300 per person. The only two opinions that really matter in anything are you and your FH's. Its your day, you have it how you want it to be.

9. make sure you wright on each card from the wedding what someone gave you, cash, gift card, check, present, etc, and the amt. That way, when you are going to do your TY's, you have it recorded who gave what and you know what to write.

10. NUMBER YOUR RSVP CARDS. whether its small number on the back or invisible ink, assign everyone a number and keep track of it. People will inevitably send the RSVP back without names, and its the only way to figure out who it was without guess work from the zip code.

Re: 11ers....Best piece of advice for future brides...

This I learned from my cousins wedding.

1- If your bustle has a lot of ties (hers had about 10 different ties), have whomever is putting them in color code them...i.e. pink ribbon tied with pink, blue with blue and so on.

2- When it comes to meal choices on your rsvp cards, to make it a little easier on yourself and the RH. Color code your place cards. My cousin had 3 entree choices so the place cards each had a separate color. I ordered the pasta dish and my place card was purple, DH ordered the chicken and his was pink.

And from my wedding I learned that something will most likely go wrong but don't let it ruin your entire day/night. Let everything roll off your shoulders and just be in the moment and enjoy your day.
