Soooo...... i know that for formal dinnerware, it's supposed to be a set of 12. But here's my question... ive just started looking at dining room tables and most of them fit 8 - 10 people at most. So what am i supposed to do with the other 2 setting? where am i going to fit two more people??? it just didnt make sense to me, maybe u grls can put my mind at ease. thaaaaanks!!!

It's always good to have them in case something breaks. Or if you're having 12 people over, you can always add a folding table and chairs at the end of your dining room table

from my perspective, if you are inviting more people, i would just get a mini table to extend it and cover it with a table cloth (like for thanksgiving, etc)
normally, you are probably not having that many people over, so i dont know if you want a really big table in the way when you arent going to use it

If you have more people over, you can add a table on. I know when my sister and brother-in-law have dinners and/or celebrations, they invite both my family and BIL's family over so they do use all their china and an extended table.

crate and barrel! they got some huuuge wooden tables plus they have the piece to put in the middle to extend the tables.

we registered for a 12 place setting formal setting. the table we currently have only fits 2. we will obviously be purchasing a new table once we have the room for one.
my parents table is a table for 6, we have fit 11 plus a highchair. it was not the most comfortable dinner but we fit.
when we start looking at tables we will be purchasing one that has removable leafs.

I'm only registering for 10...
here is the question... is it important for you to have matching place settings if you happen to have 12 people... it wouldnt bother me if I had to use regular dishes... I have a huge family, so there is no way im registering for 20 place settings... people will have to suffer with my everyday dinnerware!

no it doesnt matter...you dont have to register for 12. some people register for less and i have seen some ppl register for more. It all depends on your own needs.

You can always use the extra setting most Tabels fit 8-10 my mothers does but with just my immediate family we have 12 guest ( we do like twice a month) plus a high chair we just pull up other chair.

My table fits 6-8 max but i´m registering for 12 anyway (I´m kinda clutzy sometimes and I know I will be breaking something!!)
