I got an email from a LI weddings vendor who wanted 150 just for a hair trial. Is it me or are they smoking something and want me to pay for what their smoking?
I don't know if I'm going to have anyone to do my hair. I have one maybe but won't know for a couple of weeks. Anyone who I've considered is booked. Maybe I should stop being spoiled and go to a salon instead of having someone come to me. But I spend so much on my make up person to come to my house, it doesn't seem right not to do the same for hair.

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
Hmm I wonder if it's the same person....I once got a quote for $80 for a trial for hair and $80 for a trial for makeup from the same person, so that means the trial would have been $160!!! I didn't even ask how much the day of would have cost!!

you wanna read something funny I got a hair trial quote for $150 and $300 for the day of. (lol) now what if I want more than one with her to figure out which style looks best on me, the crazy chick had the nerve to say the same price. so I asked her what type of special makeup do you use the woman had the nerve to say mac. Now theres nothing wrong with mac cause i use it now but for $150 you better give me some famous flawless red carpet make-up.and i've checked out a couple of people and the quotes are around the same amount.

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
FH's sister works in the labs at Estee Lauder. They make Estee Lauder, Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Prescriptives, MAC, Aveda and a few others. Guess what. Same materials with slightly different formulas.
I wanted to know which brand would have a more lasting effect and she is going to get me the data. She said that basically MAC is more fashion forward (geared towards younger people) and has a bigger array of colors - probably more for different skin tones and cultures as well. The Estee Lauder line is geared more towards an older demographic, but is one of the better lines - especially if you are using natural tones. She suggested natural because you don't want to look at your wedding pictures in years to come thinking that you are some kind of painted lady.

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
You know something...I went through the same thing, got fed up of the whole 'we charge more b/c we come to your house' bit.
I also got fed up of the theme of mentioning the word WEDDING and the price SKY ROCKETS....
How come the BM's cost less and they're doing the same????? I just don't get it!
So...I went to a MAC Counter, got my makeup done there, and booked the girl to come ot my house....she was less expensive than everyone else that I met with! My MU was PERFECT too!
With the hair....I'm going to the salon AROUND THE CORNER from my house...and get this..my trial is $25!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The day of....$35!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHO CAN GO WRONG?
Um....$150 - tell the vendor to go away! There's no reason to charge that...I don't care HOW POPULAR you are...HOW much of a reputation you have.....it's just not right!

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
I forgot to mention that I got a letter in the mail from this lady about her service. I call her up and she wanted more than the other quote I got. She wanted 200 for a trial because she does both hair and make up I told her I already have a make up person and she said, Oh that's an extra I throw in but it's the same price. What bull and then the day of is another 200. 400 dollars Why do people feel that its necessary to rip off brides? Weren't, Aren't they themselves or their spouses brides? Crazy!!!!

It's the theory of supply and demand. I think they assume we need them more than they need us, such BS..sorry

I'm sorry...but there is nothing extra (except airbrush) that a MU Artist does to our face on the day of that makes it LAST any longer than any other MU.
I refuse to believe any of the junk I'm fed by vendors that makes them charge more than any other one.

The same can be said about florists. How is my bouquet 175 and my MOH 95 when it's going to be the same except w/o stephanotis?

The price difference is ridiculous, but I understand florisits...your boq (had better) be bigger than your MOH's.

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
Im getting my make up done at an Estee Lauder counter, buying the cheapest item I can and then getting the rest of the make up at half price from FSIL, the EL employee. My hair stylist, who also does make up, will put it on for me the day of the wedding. Since she is an invited guest, it is unlikely she will charge at all especially since she doesn't have her own line of make up to use. This way, I get to keep my wedding make up and use as much or as little as I want even AFTER the wedding. I know we all choose which services are worth paying a lot for and which aren't, but I just cannot imagine MYSELF paying that much for a make up application. Though many of us are so vulnerable and want to look PERFECT that day, so I can see how some people COULD fall prey to the high price of beauty.

What's your FSIL know about the Company Store? Does she get more of a discount as an employee than the Company Store offers?

Re: 150 for a Hair Trial????
I am going to my regular salon to get my hair done & then a makeup person is coming to my house. It was just easier and less costly for me & my girls. I think that if you are comfortable with your regular person who cuts your hair why wouldn't they be good enough for the day of your wedding. They know you the best they have been cutting your hair. Just a thought. A good stylist is a good stylist just b/c they aren't recommended on here or aren't one of the popular hair peopel doesn't mean they won't do a good job. The word wedding makes everyone crazy. I mean my salon charges $65 for trial which is the normal fee for an updo but i just made my updo appt for the same day as a wedding i have to go to so that at least I can get a use out of it. The day of it is $95. OH well...every place hears bride & the price sky rockets but the only way to keep these people in check is to say NO to their ridiculous prices for a simple service.

Too expensive. There are people who will do it cheaper!
