1st Birthday Help

Hello everyone!

I need some help. My daugther Isabelle 1st birthday is in August. I would like to do something at home. I have done some searches but just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on:

Entertainer
Rental (table and chairs)
or a Caterer?

I see that most of you have had 1st birthdays at home so also wondering if you suggest any do's or dont's. Thanks so much!!!

Re: 1st Birthday Help

I'm having my daughter's at home this weekend. We have a mix bag of age groups for the kiddies so we're having two kid sized pools (one of the wee little ones and one for the bigger ones). I raided the $1.00 for all the cheap games and toys I could find (plastic buckets and shovels, golf sets, bowling sets). I'm also going to do some crafts and a pinata later on. Hopefully that will keep them entertained. I bought up a few of those yard canopy type things although I hear bad weather for Saturday (hopefully not ). I didn't go with a theme per say but it doesn't take much to make people happy. We got our heroes from Waldbaums (the cheapest and good, comes with salads, etc.) and our hot food from La Cuisine. We're anticipating about 30-40 people and have a room designated for indoor play if the weather is lousy. Even for my 'cheapo' party, it still ran us around $500.00. I shouldn't complain, my good friend's party last year ran around $5,000!

Re: 1st Birthday Help

I am having my daughter s 1st b-day party at my mom's in PA so it will be i n her backyard. I live in an Apartment with no use of a backyard. so my mom has a pool so the older kids will go in that and I am going to get a small kiddie pool for the little ones. Also gonna get a pinata(sp?) and do some games. I am gonna look into an entertainer like an elmo or a magician for the kids. I am going to order things from oriental trading or go to star track in LI to get some goodies and prizes for the kids.
For food I am gonna get ahero and have some food catered my mom's friend does this so we will get a good deal and My SIL can make the cake for me so that is another expenseoff my list and that is that. Not sure how much it will run me cuz I havent' started anyhting yet

Re: 1st Birthday Help

Im going to have my son's 1st birthday at my mother's. She has an Awning over her patio...its big enough to fit 20 people...(keeping it small because his b-day is only 2 weeks before our wedding.)

If its nice out then he will have the whole yard to roll around in with his cousins.

The Theme is going to be Blues Clues...because my son actually sits and watched the whole show from start to finish.

The food is basically going to be a barbaque...but i will buy a special cake just for James to play with...and basically get messy.

Re: 1st Birthday Help

where have you been

we are going to price the few places I told you about for hot and cold dishes

B& G Deli
Broadway Gourmet and Fra AMichi

I havent thought of a theme yet , but I may do a bbq for samantha and her 'friends' Elmo and winnie the pooh, etc....

or disney princess not sure yet, and If we do the hot/cold, then it really isnt a bbq but they do have someone come bbq for you per head also.

Depending on how many kids are coming, we may do a pinnata too

Re: 1st Birthday Help

I had my son's first at home. I had about 20pp only family and close friends with babies. Since the kids were all so young I didn't use any entertainment( I thought it might do more harm than good a clown could scare the crap out of a baby). I got abunch of Elmo/Sesame Street decorations and an Elmo cake. And I made a brunch buffet. I made eegs benedict, scrambled eegs, french toast, sausage, bacon and home fries. Plus I bought bagels, muffins, and one of those boxes of coffee from dunkin donuts. It was fun and eveyone loved the food. I also liked doing it at home because you never kmow how your baby is going to react and you wouldn't want to be far from home if your little one has a melt down.. Aidan had a great time. But I would suggest only making the party for a couple of hours. It's alot for them to take in so short and sweet is good. We started at 1pm and it ended around 3:30 or 4. Some of my good friends hung out until 6 but the party was over way before that. Have fun but don't make yourself crazy!!
