1st floor condo

would you buy a first floor condo that has a private large patio in a good negihborhood in a city

i am trying to figure if we buy this condo it wil have good resale value - i normally don't like 1st floor places - the condo we will be buying will be in the north end of boston - but i am just trying to get an idea of what other people think of 1st floor condos

thanks

Re: 1st floor condo

I have a first floor condo, but out here in Suffolk. There are a bunch of pluses/minuses--there are many people that do not want to carry everything up stairs, etc., and prefer first floor. We had many older people ask if we were interested in selling when the condo above ours was for sale. It is a little noisy, and we hear the people above us walking, but apparently they hear our surround sound...In the city, safety would be an issue for me. I wouldn't like leaving windows open if it was in an area with tons of people walking by.

Price it against other condos tha are not on the first floor and see what the difference is..if any. Also, I would be concerned with safety.

I wouldn't only b/c of the noise above me factor. I live in an apt now but waited 6 months longer to get in than I would have had to for a 1st floor b/c I wanted a 2nd floor apt.

Re: 1st floor condo

a friend of the family just bought a 1st fl condo in jersey. i liked it a lot. she did a great job with it. i don't think i'd care much about it being on the 1st fl. only think that'd bother me is the idea that people might make noise above me

I like the idea of the first floor, b/c I like being able to go right outiside, I feel less trapped, & the patio is even better.
DH is concerned about safey, but my last apt was broken into on the 5th ( top) floor, so I don't think it matters. ( the 3rd floor was also broken into the same day, so you never know)
