I wish we could but we didn't qualify for an 1st homebuyer help. You have to make under a certain amount and we are above it.

Stupid middle class, always gets screwed....

What are the qualifications, if I may ask?

each county is different. i live in nj, so i don't know the numbers for new york. but it's something like: for a family of two; it's a maximum of about 40K

check out banks - some of them have their own first time homebuyer programs -

FH and I were way over them - except I found that BOA will relax the income limit for UFT memebers (City Teachers).....

you do get scr3wed if you are middle class, thats for sure!

Re: 1st time homeowner question:

funny that income guidelines are so low, but I cannot even imagine living on LI with those qualifications.

Suck b/c we are waaaaayyyy over those guidelines and we will have to eat Ramen noodles every day for 2 years when we buy our house!!! LI *****!!!! So do unrealistic income guidelines!!!

Re: 1st time homeowner question:

don't they give you a maximum of 25k with those programs? How does a couple making that amount of $$ buy a home even with the assistance?!

Re: 1st time homeowner question:

DH did it on his own before we got married. He didn't qualify for the best program, but there was a sliding scale that gave us some breaks on the down payment and interest rates...fm me if you want more info!
