I have heard the florists will give you estimate higher than your budget and assume you will pay. Is this true?
What information did you give florists on your first visit?
And any recommendations for budget-friendly ones?
Thanks!

Re: 1st vist with Florists- do I tell them budget?
I wish I would have said my budget was lower, b/c eventhough they were reasonable with their price it was shocking how on the nose it came to my budget!!! Tell them its lower than what it is...and if anything you can bump it up after he gives you his price andddddd you think about it. I said mine was 2,500.00 and the price came in at like 2531.00 ...

i told my florist my budget, this way i think they can see what types of flowers they can include in order to stay within that.

I told my florist my budget was 3,000 and then after I showed him what I liked, he said it would be appx. 2,100. I was floored that he was so honest about it because he could have said 2,999 and I wouldn't have known any better. But to be honest, I don't think you should give them your budget as it exactly is. It just kind of slipped out of my mouth and I was lucky that my florist was an honest person.

I would give them a range, and low ball it. You can always ask for for more or less when you see a proposal or centerpiece sample.
I had no idea how much flowers would cost at all so I went in and explained what I wanted and didn't really give a budget and then after the vendors proposed something to me it was insanely expensive compared to everyone else on here. And one guy tried to really take advantage of me and jacked up the price AND added things I said I didn't want. Granted I'm in Westchester so everything is more expensive, but I was still annoyed. So you definitely need to give them something to work with otherwise they won't have control.

I gave my florist a range of $2000-$2500...the initial quote was $2,250...Then i said i would pay in cash which brought it down to around 1900...then i got another 10% off so it brought it down to $1750 in total...
Just keep trying to get a lower price and you will!!!

No, I would NOT tell them any budget at all. Know in your mind what you would like to spend. Then when they ask you, tell them that you'd like to tell them ideally everything you want, and to hear the price for that. Then depending on what they come up with, you can work it down from there.
If you tell them you want to spend 3k, expect to pay 3k. No businessperson in their right mind is going to charge you 1500 if you're willing to spend double.

Re: 1st vist with Florists- do I tell them budget?
I had my first floral appointment yesterday....in my opinion, I was not prepared at all...LOL...I don't have a specific flower I want at our wedding, I am pretty much open minded. But I didn't give them a budget (I really didn't know how much it would cost to beging with)....I think it's best to speak to them, tell them what you want and see what it costs...then you determine if it's within your budget.
I went to Lovin Oven and Keyth was great....and the price was just about $2,400 without cake flowers or church flowers...I need to make a decision on those.

I can't rave enough about Burton's. Go there. Don't give a budget. They charge based on quantity----not type of flower. They really hooked us up! We kept going back and changing the flowers (to more expensive flowers) and the price never changed. They are so easy to work with. Their quote was way less than I was hoping to spend and I got a lot more (and nicer flowers) than I thought I'd be able to get.

Re: 1st vist with Florists- do I tell them budget?
I didn't give a budget when I went. I told her what I wanted and asked how much it would cost me. Although, my florist is a freind of my mothers, so I knew she would give me the best deal anyway.
If I were you, I would just explain to them what you like and ask how much. Sometimes they could try to get over on you. If you tell them you have a 2K budget, they may throw a cheap CP or Bo-k together knowing you are going to spend that anyway. Don't tell them you don't have a budget either because then you will end up seeing things that cost a fortune. Just simply tell them you are not to sure and you's like your CP's to be 'lilies' and how much. HTH!
