its maybe not a good idea to spank him b/c then he associates that with peeing. therefore, he will try to pee when youre not looking. which will result in him peeing in the house.

I think the fact that he is in a new place is very stressful on you new dog. Spanking him will make it worse for the dog and for you. Try this. Next time he has an accident, ignore what he did. Get his meal dish with some food in it and place it where he went. Eventually, he is going to learn not to pee in the house and go outside.

I know what she means... if you spank them after they pee in the house, they think the act of peeing itself is bad so the next time they will still pee in the house but do it behind a chair or under the bed, to hide the behavior.

I was always told to put the dogs face in it (not touching but close) and tell them bad. Then do positive reinforcement by bringing them outside and making it 'fun'.
It worked for my dogs

I don't think very many trainers advocate putting your dog's face near its pee, anymore. Everything I read about house training said to keep a close eye on the dog if you catch him in the act clap to startle him so he stops and then take him outside. The key was to never let him have an accident in the house and to always give good rewards when he goes outside.

We did this for all our dogs! For our current puppy, she was house broken within 2 weeks and she was only 11 weeks old at the time we got her!
ETA: I only caught my pup in the act once so I could rely on the catch them method!

yeah putting your dogs face in it is old school. a good thing to do is say in a stern voice 'BAD POTTY' tehn pick it up (yes the poo) and bring it outside... put it on the gras and say 'GOOD potty' in a sweet voice

Peeing while you are vacuuming could be something he does out of fear or nervousness. Many, if not most, dogs are scared of the vacuum.
He might not even be able to help it.

We have 5 dogs now and I've had many in the past. It works every time. My tyson, a male terrier who likes to mark and was a stubborn as hell, was trained in 2 weeks! He's never once had an accident.

I agree...putting their face in it doesn't help unless you catch them and it is the act of catching them, not putting their face in it, that helps with the training. Positive rewards are going to encourage the behavior because of the attention...Try to take him out as often as you can, like once an hour. Also, don't take him for long walks in effort to get him to pee outside. Usually when a dog comes back from a long walk, they take a long drink of water and will need to go to the bathroom again in a short period of time.
