2 month dr. appt,

Sophia has her 2 month appointment on Tuesday. I know this means she gets her first vaccinations.

Do you know which ones she gets and what they protect her against? Any advice to get through the tears? Do shots like this affect her mood for the rest of the day....the rest of the week?

Re: 2 month dr. appt,

I believe it's 3 shots, but naturally I can't remember what they are. I bet someone around here will know though.

My dr. said to give Nicolas Tylenol if he was uncomfortable, but after the initial crying, he was back to his old self in less than an hour. A bottle and a major cuddle helped.

HIB
DTP
Pneumococcal
Polio
and probably HepB

ETA: some of these are combined, not sure which ones but it is 3 shots as Jenn said

Re: 2 month dr. appt,

My ped. would NEVER give more than 2 shots at once. You can also delay the shots if you want to. I did with Emma till she was 4 months only because I wanted to know her little body could fight anything that was put into her better.

The tears should last only seconds - if there are any at all...

The rest of today she will either sleep more or be completly normal. By tomorrow it will be a distant memory.

Re: 2 month dr. appt,

My ped, like Karen's, will only give 2 shots at a time. Argh, I can't remember what shots Sean had at that time. I have to look later!

I will say that up until this last visit, he's been SUCH a trooper about his shots! I'm sure Sophia will be just fine with mommy there to comfort her!!

Re: 2 month dr. appt,

At our office we give
Dtap, Hep B, Polio(combined shot)
Hib
Prevnar
We tend to give 2-3 vaccines at a time, babies can safely handle up to 4-5 shots at a time, but that's overkill. Many babies may get cranky or get a bit of fever, but majority do fine without ever requiring a dose of Tylenol. Have it at home just in case.

Re: 2 month dr. appt,

Molly got all 3 shots at her 2 month appt. The tears came quick and lasted only a few minutes. I picked her up and gave her tons of kisses. She was okay shortly after that.

You should always speak to your ped about shots and reactions etc... it is your right to delay if you feel strongly about it.

Why would I want to delay it? I don't know much about the shots... I guess I should do some reading up. I am pretty confident she can handle it. Are there risks involved at such an early age?
