I am concerned about the rise of religious fundementalism in this country; does this concern you and do you think Bush is linked to this movement?
I grew-up in the Midwest and am deeply concerned about what is happening there regarding the types candidates they are sending to the Senate (Coburn in Oklahoma for example). Now that it seems that the religous right played a strong role in putting Bush back in office; this scares me, but I am wondering how Bush supporters feel.

Re: 2 Part Question for those who voted for Bush
Religion has always played an important part in any election.
Its just really being exposed now because the Dems are blaming religion for those 3 million voted they missed.

This election I think that there are certain factors that do not normal exist come most election times..War.. also gay marraige has been highlighted in the media etc..not everyone believes in gay marraige and then you have the threat of terrorism. combined with the economic slump we are in etc.. i think people chose on the issue they thought was most important to them and to many religion is a really important part. As someone pointed out..even our $$ has a religious reference.

Re: 2 Part Question for those who voted for Bush
My response will be basically the same as the others. As much as we have always pretended that there is a separation of church and state, I do not believe that has ever been the case. There are many examples, which I won't rehash since a number were pointed out in the previous posts, but ultimately, I don't think that Bush is the religious extremist a lot of left wingers are inferring that he is. You may disagree, but this is my opinion.
In short, no, it doesn't concern me as a major problem. Am I disturbed by the new NC senator? Yes and I don't think I'd be a product of my northeast environment unless I was. But ultimately, the definition of a democracy is that majority rules. If that's what the majority of NC wants, that's who should be elected. And again, majority rules. So, while the majority in a state may have elected a person like this, the majority of the Senate is not. I have confidence in the checks and balances built into our government.

I do however, think this country has gotten off course with regard to moral values and I think that is part of why some people voted the way they did.
Amen to that as being one of the reasons (not the only)
It is also one of the reasons cited in my middle eastern class as to why people look at the west the way they do.

I think there needs to be a separation of church and state. Someone's religion is their belief, it doesn't have to be everybody else's beliefs. You rule with common sense. You don't say murder is wrong because religion says it's wrong.
When your President is choosing funding towards religious groups as opposed to higher education, then there is a problem.

I am not attacking. I just am curious and trying to understand and educate myself on our differences.
For those of you that said you are pro-choice and pro-gay rights but feel that morality in our country is an issue. Do you feel that Kerry is immoral?

Sometimes I hear the politcians say that we are the country that others look up to but when I travel, sometimes I feel like people actually are starting to look down on us.

So do you feel that Bush represents a step in the right direction for our country morally speaking?

I can only speak for myself and my beleifs. I am admittedly in the middle on the abortion issue. Same with Gay rights.
I try not to judge anyone in the sense that I will condemn them or say you are worng for so and so belief but when it comes time for voting..I will vote for whose beliefs are more similar to mine.

Honestly being overly informed on how politics work, Bush is not the only one who will determine what is right for our country. Sometimes what i may think is right may not be in line with what our government decides. For example Pray in church. I choose to send my daughter to a school that prays. I want her to have that foundation.
Bush has issues that I differ with him on so no I cannot say that he is a step in the right direction morally speaking. or a step in the wrong...my morals come from inside me..not from a president..and I would die for my morals even if others disagree.

No, I don't. I can't speak for everyone but I have nothing against Kerry personally - I just don't think he has what it takes to be the leader of the free world. JMO.
As far as the issue of morality goes, that was not the top priority on my list as far as who I'd vote in for president. One person is not going to affect my morals, nor do I think he's going to affect others. That's society. All he can do is introduce bills and programs that sends us in the right direction. I think that Bush can do that. But again, this was not my top priority when voting.

All this morality talk makes it even more surprising that on the NWR board a poll asking who went to religious services showed a majority as Never attending.

Didn't say church rather religious services which could mean anything. It just seems that talking about religion in relation to todays issues that people would actually support that religion.

Re: 2 Part Question for those who voted for Bush
Keep in mind that the 'rules' about who votes for bush and who votes for kerry don't apply because we live in the NE for the most part and ahvea VERY different mentality than people in 'the heartland' Bush voters in the NE are VERY different than the Bush voters in the heartland...so I think the generalizations, if they apply, don't apply to the people on this site, because based on what I've seen from you all and on the news, you're not the 'typical' bush voters...
