What I was thinking is maybe because we are inviting kids to the reception also (we are both the olderst cousin and want our younger ones to celebrate with us) I should do 2 sets of invites - 1 formal one for the adults and 1 fun and cartoony type one for the kids.
What is everyone's opinion?

Re: 2 sets of invites?
I personally wouldn't do two separate types of invitations... but if you want to, it's a cute idea. (We're not having kids at our reception, though)
However, etiquette dictates that children over 10 should get their own invitation. (But take etiquette for whatever it's worth!)
I do, however, think it's a cute idea.

I didn't know that, thanks. Is there an etiquette rule about siblings? Like should each sibling get their own, or should I send one to 'Jack, Jill, and Jane Smith'?

We had kids at our wedding too, but we only had one invitation. It would be really sweet of you to give them their own, but it's certainly not necessary; don't stress over it.
The only kid who got her own invitation is my step-daughter. Then the other kids just got added on with their parents, regardless of age (unless they were teens or adults still living at home).
On the outside envelope: The Smith Family
On the inside I put: Mr. & Mrs. John Smith Joe, Mary, and Susan

Re: 2 sets of invites?
I am having a special Kids Table at the reception with kid friendly food and activities. We're only sending one invite but teh kids will each have their own reply card that I am making. It's a cute scribble font that says Maggie, our daughter, invites you to join her at the kids table with a spcae for a reply. This way parents can decide if they want their kids at the kids table or with them and I have an accurate head count for the kids table.

Each should get his own... just as adult children would each get their own.

thats adorable!!!
The second set of invites i feel would make them feel special and an intricate part of your day! kind of like grownups!

I wouldn't do a second set of invitation - children do not really 'understand' the beauty * work that go into it.
However, I would give them goodies for the reception.
We made each child their own placecard and their own activity bag:

I agree with this. Spend your money on something they would appreciate. Also I am only sending individual invitations to guests over 18. That is what all of my cousins have done and personally I think children between the age of 10 and 18 do not care if they get their own, regardless of what etiquette books say.

I am only sending one invitation as well and sending a seperate invitation to the kids who are teens or who are away at school.
