My appt for this is on the 26th... would it be a big deal if we tried to schedule this appt 12 days early? Would they still be able to tell the sex this early? We might be going up to NY this coming weekend (last minute plans) and we thought we'd surprise my DH family with the news of the sex??? What do you girls think? I will be 18 weeks along then.

Is this your level 2 sono? If so they may say tyou have to wait until 20 weeks. Check with your Dr. first

I believe so... they didn't call it that though. It's the anatomy sonogram? Is that the same thing?

Yes it is. They will check to make sure everything is in the right place and working and the right size. I would ask your Dr. if you are able to move this up. You might not be able to. I wish I could be of more help I can see how it would be exciting to tell family members when you see them.

the 20 week sonogram is to measure and make sure the internal organs and baby's skull and limbs are developing properly. I would not go 12 days early without asking the doctor first. Gender is not the main purpose, although many couples think it is. Making sure you the baby is healthy is more important than anything else.

I am pretty sure it specifically has to be 20 weeks. When I made the appt., they said 20-22 weeks. I had asked if we could do it at 18 (we had a tentative vacation plan at the time) and they said it won't serve it's purpose if done too early.
Sorry, but i think you should stick with the 20 weeks. Much more important to make sure everything is well with baby!

Hmmm. I got my '20 week' sono at 17 weeks (not by choice) and they said that was fine, as they were still able to see everything that they needed to. I found out the sex then, too! Hope that helps.
I have known people who have found out the sex at 15 weeks.
