-'Oh your getting married in may? next may right?' (i feel like saying 'no this may you dumb a$$-meanwhile we are in july already) lol! after I tell them in 10 months they say this!
-'Oh you have plenty of time!' (obviously they don't know what its like to plan AND pay for a wedding yourself!)
'May? Why so far away?' (Again I'd like to give them the same answer as above)!
Any other comments you hear that pisses you off???

Re: 2003 Brides.....
I hate it when people say, 'Oh you have plenty of time' when I tell them we're getting married August 2003. It's just enough time for us to come to a decision on vendors and what not considering our wedding is on LI and we live in NJ. My FH and I work long hours and we can only go out to LI on the weekends. Trust me, it's not fun knowing that every weekend you're driving out to LI to see vendors and lay down some serious money. I can't even take my vacation next week like I had planned to go and look for my dress!

Re: 2003 Brides.....
Thank you girls....I was starting to feel like I was the only one hearing these STUPID comments! Today I bought my 2 MOH's their gifts. (Macy's was having a huge jewelry sale) And the saleswoman kept saying...your wedding isnt until april, so why rush to buy gifts. I guess it didnt occur to her that I need to buy things on sale, thanks to the high costs of everything else wedding related! Hang in there girls, so people are so insensitive. *Also my FH and I have been together almost 8 years, so many people instead of congratuating us, just make comments like,'Well it's about time' or, 'What took so long?'.....UGGGGGGGG!

I totally can relate. My FH and I have been together for 6 years (no kids, do not live together)and the wedding is Sept. 2003. WE know why we are taking long.....BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD TO DO IT IN 6 MOS!!!! People don't get this. Just hang in there and do what's right for you and your FH.

OMG...I hear the same thing...6/04 is a while away...but we are paying for almost everything our selves..plus fixing up the house...plus honeymoon...have people forgotten how much things cost...We could NEVER do it in less then a year.... It is so anoying to hear what everyone has to say...Everyone has an opinion...They should keep it to themselves.

Re: 2003 Brides.....
Um my own FILS say this to me!
Our wedding is next July and they think I'm totally crazy for having started the planning in February. We live in the DC area so my time in LI is limited.

Re: 2003 Brides.....
We had a long engagement also and got the same thing, especially at work. It is the custom of the people that own my company to get engaged and married quickly. We got engaged 2/01 and our wedding is 9/02. I got loads of 'Next year???' It didn't help that 5 people got engaged and married since 2/01. 1 eloped, 1 had a civil service, 3 had weddings paid for by their parents in a close knit community where they don't have the selection of vendors and locations we have out here.

Re: 2003 Brides.....
We got engaged in April '01 and are getting married July '03. You wouldn't believe how many comments we've been getting!
First off, we have been dating for 7 years (we starting dating at 18). After 4 years of dating, we already starting hearing the comments, 'When are you two going to get engaged?' We both would reply, 'We're only 22' 'We both want to finish our Master's' 'We want to be in secure jobs and save for a house'. For some reason, the older people can't understand this.
Finally, last year we got engaged and we heard from just about everyone, 'Why are you waiting so long?' 'Why a 2 year engagement?' Again, the responses we had were similar to the others... 'We need to save for a house' 'Want to save more money' 'It's our decision'
Tomorrow will official mark the 1 year countdown. I wonder what else I'm going to hear!

Re: 2003 Brides.....
Karen, me too! One year from this weekend to the big day...WAHOO!!
And, yes, I TOTALLY am with all of you re these STUPID questions. We got engaged May '01 and between then and next July:
-We are saving up the $$ we need to pay for for our share (at least half, if not more) of the wedding -We are booking everything we can...because we live in DC and things in LI book FAST!! we have to space out the trips up to NY and try to cram in as much as can each weekend, because we don't have the luxury of meeting a vendor on a Thursday night, for instance... -I am finishing another year of my MBA program (which I am doing part-time while working full-time) -We are waiting for the church where I was baptized to be finished with its construction (estimated for Easter...fingers crossed!)
But do I REALLY feel like going into each and every one of these reasons every time someone asks 'Why a 2-year engagement?' You bet I don't!
