for weddings that is. the woman running the pre cana/wedding department in my church said that there were so few weddings this year, they're only doing 1 pre cana class for the entire year.. weird right?

It's weird because we just sent in our registration form and there are tons of classes in both the NY Archdiocese and the Brooklyn Archdiocese (which covers Bklyn AND Queens).

Thats odd, b/c we tried to sign up for Pre-cana and were bumped b/c there were too many people signed up for it that were getting married in 07. We wound up being added to this past falls list b/c a couple dropped out and all the classes were full.
ETA:Im getting married there and havent had an problems....who did you deal with?

Re: 2007 not popular??
adrianna.. i sent in my application there and for 5 weeks never got a call back. even when i called them, someone couldnt help me. they jerked me around for weeks (it could've been longer) as my frustration grew more. then i told them that i'd do pre cana in florida since i thought i'd be living here for awhile and FH too, but FH moved back to LI and i'll be moving there so i told them id have to do it in ny. and adriana called me 3 times and left messages saying 'well how are you gonna do it in ny if i have written down here you'd be doing it in fl' um hello? because i just told you im moving. its not that hard to understand. they have major issues with communication. adrianna told me there was an april class then the woman that actually handles pre cana said theres only one class. uggh

That is so strange b/c I know sooo many people getting married this year. My pre-cana class consisted of about 18 couples.

Have you met with a priest yet? I know that we just went to a FOCCUS meeting and there were about 40 people there for the winter pre-cana course. If I remember correctly you do have to meet with a preist first b/f you are able to start pre-cana-i could be wrong though

Peggie is right... you have to MEET with a priest before you can attend Pre-cana because the priest has to discern that you're even able to get married in the church.... most people are but they have you meet with the priest to be sure. For example, a priest wouldn't clear you to go ahead with pre-cana if none of you made your sacraments (i.e. baptism and confirmation) or if one was previously married and an annulment did not go through, etc. etc. The priest gives the go ahead for Pre-cana and many parishes set up the Pre-cana for you based on the names of the couples they get from the priests.... i did not have to schedule my Pre-Cana... it was done for us by the Church after we met with the priest.
