I ended up ordering my gown very early. It came in already yesterday, and I previewed it- even though my wedding isn't til February.
I liked the look much better when she clipped the the one that was 6 sizes too big back in the Fall... my FMIL and FSIL said it looked beautiful and that I was being silly/etc...it was pretty..but it didn't flatter me as much as I remembered, and it looked boring- just like the dresses of recent friends who got married (not that theirs were boring..they just all had the same look)...I also don't think FH is going to like it cause he didn't like theirs...and I'm just really not so sure about it. However, I already put down 50% and they ordered it...so it's mine.
Did any of you guys order your gowns and then change them??

Re: 2nd Guessing Your Gown After It's Been Ordered?
Unfortunately, this is pretty common. Try to remember exactly what you loved about your dress in the first place! I felt similar to you- I liked the way the big sample pinned on me looked better than MY gown when it came in. But once they started doing alterations (and I lost a little weight) and I could see the dress taking shape, I fell in love all over again. If you feel like the dress is boring, maybe there is something they can add to it to give it that little something extra. And if it comes down to it, many girls have changed dresses and a lot closer to their dates than you, so it is still an option. You might not lose your deposit if you order a dress from the same designer, talk to your bridal salon! Good luck!

There are things you can do to your gown to change the way it looks slightly. I would tell the seamstress what you want to change to the dress and see what she says. You can add embelishment in some places to jazz up the dress. With some dresses you can also change the neckline or add pickups. Can we see a picture? I'm sure the ladies on here can give you advice as to what changes to make

Re: 2nd Guessing Your Gown After It's Been Ordered?
Sure. It's a Demetrios design. Now, for some reason, the Demetrios website is not loading pics for me right now :( ...I will try to add them later..my computer is also being funky...maybe after I re-boot I can edit this. I didn't take any pics at the salon, because there were signs that said cameras weren't allowed.
Let me take you guys through the story of how I came to it first so you can get a little better idea of where I'm coming from. Originally, I thought I wanted a halter gown, because I'm a singer and had a very flattering $200 halter gown from David's that I used for one of my recitals. I loved how my figure looked in it, so my original plan was to try to get a great deal on a beautiful white halter gown. FH also happened to mention to me one time that he liked halter gowns much better than strapless/etc.
Then, I saw Demetrios B154 (Blue Collection) in their magazine... At first, I thought it was way over the top (definitely not was I was looking for...think Swan Lake in a wedding dress) but I became obsessed with it for a while... I called up Demetrios salons, and there were only one or two samples of that dress floating around Macy's in the midwest...I was kinda annoyed and didn't want to pay $50 just to have it shipped to try on in a big size. There were pictures of it all over their magazine/etc. so I didn't understand why there weren't any in or around NY.
One day, I went with FMIL just to get an idea of how the Demetrios gowns fit and see if it was worth ordering the sample of that one. After trying on a few that our salesperson said had similar skirts, I thought the skirt would be too big. That salesperson spent sooo much time with FMIL and me, and she tried on so many different styles. She tried one dress on me finally that I was really happy with...However, then she decided to try one more on me...FMIL and her convinced me to get the last one, because it was more appropriate for a night/evening wedding as the other one was a lighter material. It made sense to me and looked really beautiful when she clipped it. They were also having a great sale. I went for it, but I never had that crying moment or that 'omg this is my dress' moment. I love my FMIL but wished I had gone dress shopping with my sisters instead (our mom passed away 4 years ago).
The gown I ended up with is Demetrios 9700 (Princess Collection). The skirt is bigger than I realized anyway and I'm changing my prejudice against big, tulle skirts now...
Part of me wants to just go try other dresses on to see how I feel...I only went that one day! The thing is ...I wish there were somewhere that I could actually try the gown in my size before ordering it, now that the clipping thing happened...I feel like with some gowns that really makes a difference. (I'm a size 4 and most of them are 10s...is there anywhere that you could try them on in a 4??)
Again, I'll try to get those pics up here..but those are the style numbers for now if you wanna check them...
Thanks for all your help, ladies...I feel like one of those crazy brides on tv that I thought I'd never be...
Re: 2nd Guessing Your Gown After It's Been Ordered?
I'm sorry you feel this way. I haven't even began to look for dresses yet so I don't know what you are going through but maybe you can try to add a lil flair to it somehow...funky shoes, colored flower in your hair, a sick blingy necklace...maybe tthey can add some crystals to the dress. Just some thoughts! I assume many brides feel just like you that what they remember isn't quite the same and the build up of wanting to love it soooo much. good luck but remember- have them make the alterations and add some of 'you' to it and maybe you'll feel more comfortable!

Re: 2nd Guessing Your Gown After It's Been Ordered?
I found pics through a google image search...the first two are of the dress I saw in the magazine...the second two are of my dress...of course, it doesn't look like that on me...and I have no idea how that other would look, nor did I ever look for/find any halter styles like I originally had planned...
