Hello everyone. I'm fairly new to these boards, only got engaged about 3 weeks ago :) So far we've made a tentative guest list around 150. But the actual number would be a little lower, definitely not higher. I've started calling some places to get quotes and I'm feeling totally discouraged. We are both teachers, so we''re looking for a summer '14 date. So far I've been quoted around $150 to as high as $225 a person! I knew weddings were expensive but that just seems insane to me!!! I feel like I've spent the last week glued to the Internet researching venues and I'm already ready to snap! Lol
Are there any hidden gems you can recommend. Maybe places I'm not aware of that are a little cheaper?? I originally wanted a Saturday night but that seems to be the priciest. I'd rather a Friday evening over a Sunday. Didn't really want a daytime event. I guess once we finally book a place I'll feel less anxiety (hopefully). Thanks for letting me vent!!

I know how you feel. When Fh and I first started looking we felt discouraged that we'd find a place we could afford. We finally did. Though it's a little more than we wanted to spend. You'll find a place.....there are tons of less expensive ones out there.

Definitely check out the Swan Club. I have a guest list of approximately 200 and I'm paying less than $150pp for a Saturday night in June. Good luck!!

I knew I wanted to get married in the summer, but we just couldn't afford to pay saturday night prices so we switched to a Friday night. I suggest doing that so you can still have a place you love on a budget you can afford. I will FM you my friday night summer 14 quotes

I know I wanted a summer Saturday weddig but switched to the daytime bc less expensive. We couldn't do a Friday night bc 75 percent off our guest list is flying in so we felt bad having them take 2 days off of work. Ty to use the reception guide on here its pretty accurate. Rivera. Metropolitan are good options and do 1 wedding at a time.

I had always dreamed of having a Saturday night wedding but when I fell in love with the Fox Hollow it was completely unrealistic. The only way we could afford it was to do a Friday night wedding. Be opened minded and you'll find something gorgeous that works for you!

Don't worry...it will get a lot less stressful. It took FH and I seeing about 15 venues before agreeing on one. And remember, there's ALWAYS room for negotiating!! The Inn was way out of our budget, but we moved to a Friday and FH managed to negotiate amazingly....so don't stress out. Everything will fall into place, just put your negotiating hat on!
Plus, you'll have time to save money and pay a little at a time. It's very scary in the beginning but everything will work out.

It gets a LOT less overwhelming after a while. It took me 5 months and over 35 venues to find what I wanted, and I spent a lot of that time glued to my computer doing research and not sleeping at night and crying. But once you choose the venue, which you have PLENTY of time to do, it's all easy after that.
Have you considered checking out the all inclusive venues on Long Island? I've heard they have great deals and the ones I've heard girls speak about on here sound beautiful.
What type of venue do you picture yourself getting married at? This is extremely important to help weed out some venues. My venue also offers a deal on Sunday afternoons (when I'm having my wedding), where the price they gave me was including service fee and tax.
Also, because you are both teachers, have you looked into either Columbus Day weekend, or President's Day week?
You're not alone, there were plenty of us who were in the same situation at the beginning. Use these boards as a tool to help you find some venues!!

Check out Floral Terrace, Windows on the Lake, Sunset Harbor
Check out Chateau La Mer and Sunset Harbour. Also see if maybe you can get a date on 4th of July weekend. Our wedding is on a Thursday, but it's the day before the 4th so everybody will have a 3-day weekend after!

Bellport Country Club! I am getting there on a Fri night in the 'summer' (technically its the week after Memorial Day), for less than $100/person.

I don't have any summer quotes, but all my fall quotes were under $150! We also switched to a Friday night to bring down the cost! I would check out Rivera, Chateau La Mer, Swan Club.
Good luck!

I must recommend Majestic Gardens. I'm not quite sure about their summer prices but they were definitely one of the less expensive venues I looked at.

swan club, westbury manor, floral terrace, jericho terrace, and milleridge cottage all in your price range- I believe all of the above except milleridge cottage have multiple events going on at one time- I know for sure that the milleridge cottage is one event at a time and you get the whole venue to yourselves for defintely under your budget, and i think a few of the others only do 1 wedding and maybe 1 or 2 other events, like sweet 16s and stuff- so I would check all of those out and see what you like!

If you're looking for places that do one wedding at a time, I would check out Thatched Cottage, North Ritz Club, and Floral Terrace. They all have very different feels to them and were all pretty reasonably priced when I checked them out.
