4 days out and....

4 days out and....

I've never shared my 'personal life' on here... but today I will because I need to vent and get this out.

I also never, ever make facebook statuses, but because I was getting fed up over the reaction from co-workers about my decision to keep my last name I decided yesterday to post a status to get my frustration out--not directing at anyone in particular and it especially had NOTHING to do with anyone on my facebook friend's list. So I was not just posting some passive aggressive comment to someone without being direct. The people it was directed to aren't even ON facebook.

Sooo long story short, I go to a wedding, I get home and see that I had comments on my status. Most agreeing with me and saying 'Good for you', etc.
My fiance's uncle (who mind you, is his mother's brother--so my fiance' and he do NOT have the same last name) posted 'Wow', so my fiance' figured his uncle thought that was a status directed towards my fiance'. My fiance' wrote this amazing comment about how it was not directed towards him and how my decision in keeping my maiden name does not make us any less married and that he fully supports that decision, etc.

That SHOULD have been the last thing written, but nope, his uncle wrote 'I agree so that's why we should keep our personal
lives personal not online good grief charley brown'
My response: 'If someone doesn't care to hear about my personal life or
what i choose to share on Facebook then they should not be my friend on Facebook.'
His response: 'Ok guess we can't joke or comment here this is getting
stupid all I said was if there's a comment then people will comment
back that's all if someone doesn't want feedback then don't make a
comment' (...Is that even English?)
THEN I see his wife put up an E-Card on her Facebook that says 'Do you ever look at someone's status and just want to say shut the F up?'.... and THEN I find his uncle BLOCKED ME! (Which I then blocked his wife.)

I never once asked for anyone's thoughts or opinions and this guy doesn't know me well enough to 'joke' or even comment on what I write on Facebook!! It was just a way for me to get out what I was feeling & get the word out that no, I'm not changing my name. I am completely livid right now and I know that the cold feelings from some of my fiance's family & family-friends are because his Mother opened up to them about her 'issues' with things with my family & the wedding, etc. so they felt that they should be involved and not be nice to me and I can only assume they thought it was directed towards my fiance's parents, which isn't even true. I don't think they even know I'm not changing my last name...

These low-lifes are supposed to be at the rehearsal & dinner and obviously the wedding. I told my fiance' if they are there, I will not be there.

Girl, hold your head high and BE at the dinner/wedding, regardless of who shows. *You* are the one who *should* be there. What these people don't realize is that they're 'writing history' right now..... Someday you and FH may have children and their current behavior just may influence the kind of relationship they're allowed to have with your children. It's unfortunate to have to start off a new life this way.

ETA: It's also unfortunate FH ends up in the middle. Try not to let the actions/words of a few idiots ruin your whole wedding. Try, try, to be above it all. Have the quiet knowledge that YOU are the bride and the wife....let them run their own little circus. You'll come out on top and with your dignity. (((Hugs)))

Sorry you are going through this and it sucks that it is so close to your wedding. I don't know how you should handle this but I want to tell you good luck and keep a positive attitude. Your wedding day will be beautiful and you get to marry your best friend.

I do hope that you have had a conversation with FH's mom and cleared things up with her. Good luck and don't let ANYONE ruin your wedding day.

I agree. You can avoid them as much as possible. Although I love FB. I had to cut some family due to FB drama...

Exactly...this would infuriate me as well, but DO NOT LET ANYONE RUIN YOUR WEDDING!!!! Take a deep breath and tell yourself you can address this after the wedding if need be. Rise above and if they try to start with you, us LIW-ers would be happy to come and escort them out!

Put them completely out of your mind. Don't waste your time getting into any silly family bickering in the last few days. Just be totally above that and focus on enjoying your wedding.

Thank you so much for your comments, ladies and especially the support!
My fiancé spoke to his Aunt & Uncle last night and apparently he didn't realize his comment would get me upset & he apologized to my fiancé for getting involved. His wife however, had no idea that anything was going on (I don't buy that.) because that E-card was a bit coincidental.
I received a friend request from his uncle this afternoon that I haven't accepted. Not sure if I will. Especially since I deleted his wife haha.
My fiancé said his parents felt the uncle also should have stayed out of it and minded his own business, so that made me feel better that they were on my side.
I do feel a lot better than I did last night, for sure. I refuse to let anyone ruin my day!!!

People are CRAZY!! It's unbelievable what things people will say and even after the wedding there are one or two people who just ask stupid things about why I had this or why I didn't. But 99% of the time, people are happy and amazing and your day will be awesome and like the other girls said, those people do not have to be included in your lives all the time in the future!
People caused such stupid drama in the couple weeks before the wedding but guess what for them - it didn't matter and they all had a great time so they really could have kept their issues to themselves!

Get ready for everyone to assume you are taking is name too People keep calling me by it and I'm like, 'It's not legally changed yet!' Even though I probably will eventually.

We really need an in-laws vent group

Omg, seriously. I figure I need to get through this one big day and then I rarely have to see any of these trouble makers again! One of my fiance's mother's friends was already told her behavior at my bridal shower was out of line (she sat in front of me while I opened gifts and made comments to hurry up, etc. and she didn't even say goodbye to me!.... I have NO idea what I ever did to this woman... I think she just legit hates her life or something haha) and that she should stay away from me at the wedding. I'm not afraid to stick up for myself and you bet your bottom I'd call people out on their obnoxious behavior towards me or my family at my wedding!

Regarding the last name issue, my fiance' has been reminding me that we will be getting cards with his last name all over it and I'm fine with that... I realize that's expected and not everyone will know. The priest and our emcee know so it's not like we will be awkwardly called Mr. & Mrs. X. However, I wouldn't be surprised if his aunt & uncle do it purposefully now

I would not add the uncle back. He clearly doesn't know how to keep his mouth shut and mind his own business. If you do fee.l that you need to add him back maybe you can just put him on a filter.

I have my sister in law on filter, it's the only way I can get along w/ her. She has somethingn to say about EVERYTHING lol.

Oh no way, I'm not adding him back. I don't care if he did it in a fit of anger, he upset me a week before my wedding & that is unacceptable. I'll leave him hanging for now-won't accept or delete the request haha. I've just been sooooooo busy leading up to the wedding I haven't been on Facebook.... Whoops! haha

I don't mean to be rude but I feel like this happens with Facebook constantly. I understand you are very passionate about your decision and you want your voice heard, but you should've been prepared for people weighing in their opinions once you posted the status.

Your FH's family should've been respectful and mature enough to keep their opinions to themselves. He and his wife should've kept their sense of humor to themselves.

But again, this is the problem with Facebook and the Internet - you're giving people the opportunity to pass judgment on your life.
