FH and I drove from Nassau to Queens, then took a subway to the city. It took us roughly two hours to get to the cake artist appointment. We were there for maybe ten minutes! He gave us some slices of cake and fillings and left us while we tried them. They were all delicious but we knew we wanted chocolate and more chocolate so that was pretty easy. The baker was really nice, I don't think he speaks English too well but I really don't care. He does gorgeous work and I can't wait to see his drawing. However, we got so frustrated doing a four hour round trip for a 10 minute meeting. I don't know what I expected him to do though! It just seemed so anti-climatic

Who is the baker? I will be looking into bakers soon too.
Sucks to have the long commute though.

They are called City Cakes, another 2012 bride recommended them. They are soo expensive, but we really wanted a great cake, so we are just getting a really small one! They do amazing work. City Cakes If you find any other bakers of this caliber, I would love to know, especially if they are on the island!

Re: 4 hours in transportation
I'll let you know for sure. How about much is a small cake from them? The catering hall provides me with a white cake BUT my uncle had this ongoing promise for about 10 years now that he wanted to be the one to buy me my wedding cake.(He promised when we was drunk) LOL!
Well I told him that the place provided me with a cake but he made a stink about it cause he wants to buy me my wedding cake, therefore he gave me money for the cake and asked me to go and buy one for the wedding and it better not be the one from the catering place. LOL! So now I'm cake shopping!

That is a long trip. I would have just driven. I think cake is always worth it though.

Re: 4 hours in transportation
where in nassau did you come from and when did you take the subway from Queens? If you go to Bayside or just jump on the LIRR in Nassua you prob would have made it faster, no?
I would have been annoyed too but the up side is that it was really yum and the work is gorgeous..im looking now.

omg! Those cakes are ridiculous! The detailing on them is absolutely insane! That is a lot of hard work and I'm sure if it's yummy, then you will just absolutely love it!...
