Re: 5 hour reception too long?
our CH is from 6:30 - 8pm then our reception is 8pm to 1 pm....6 1/2 hours total - we arent expecting everyone to stay - but we wanted extra time for dancing since we are having a VH and that takes a lot of time away from the party.....we are also on a friday night.....if you have a lot of guests who like to party than i think its fine.....we like to party and so does FH's family and our friends - if some people start to leave after VH that is fine b/ci know they will have to drag FH and I off the dance floor

Re: 5 hour reception too long?
our cocktail is from 6:30-7:30 and party with viennese hour from 7:30-12:30...the longer the better...if people want to leave, then they always have that option of missing out on all the good deserts

I think it's perfect for a Friday nite. It will all go by so fast, it'll be a blur... so party like a rock star!

Re: 5 hour reception too long?
i don't think it's too long - actually my sister is trying to convince me to extend mine for an hour (not venetian, just another hour). they say the night flies so i doubt most would have a problem with it.

Re: 5 hour reception too long?
My wedding is a sunday, cocktail hr is 6-7 and reception is 7-12 (thats including venetian hr). At first I was concerned peope will not stay, but you cant worry about that. The more time, the more fun I think!!!

I totally agree, but just remember that your band or DJ will cost extra too! PErsonally I would say EFF IT and just do it...if people want to leave early they will, the rest will party till they get thrown out! I'm having a Fri wedding too and its from 7:30-1AM with a 3PM mass and its about 1.5 away from where most of us live....I'm sure someone will write a blog about how inconsiderate I am on Ihateweddings.com too

Re: 5 hour reception too long?
I don't think that's too long. Maybe find out if u can plan to end it at 12 and if u decide at last minute, you can extend it the extra hour. I think most vendors (music, RH) will do this but its worth asking about!

Re: 5 hour reception too long?
I think that its perfect...i think that 5h reception is they way you should go, everybody will have time to eat, dance and relaks....and its your day so u want to have some fun also...the longer the better...in my country they would say that party its tooo short.... we usually have party till 6 in the morning and then opn sunday we have afterparty... :)))
