52nd Street Swing or Big City Swing - Comments?

52nd Street Swing or Big City Swing - Comments?

Has anyone heard or worked with either of these bands? If so, I would love to hear your feedback. These bands are two of the options from NYC Swing, and we're trying to decide between them (or if we should even use either of them).

I only saw them on video and they were both really good. We wound up booking NYC Swing. You sh oudl see if they are performing someplace and go see them live.

Thanks! Not sure we'll have the chance to see either of them live, but it's a good idea.

Anyone else know of these bands? Even if you considered them (or any of the NYC Swing bands) and decided against them, I'd love to hear your opinion!

DO NOT BOOK A BAND UNLESS YOU HEAR THEM LIVE!

Sorry for the caps, but I feel REALLY strongly about this. When we were doing our research, there were a few times when based on the CD I said 'this was the one'. When we checked the bands out live I was extremely disappointed...

You have a very valid point. I would definitely not book anyone based on a CD, but I *really may* have to go with someone based solely on what I've seen on their videos.

It would be ideal to see them performing live, but I don't have the luxury of time to run around checking out gigs. I just recently booked my wedding for late March, so at this point I've only got about 2 months left to do almost everything.

I know that NYC Swing is a reputable outfit, and from what I've heard, comes highly recommended - but any more info about these two particular band configurations will help me out even more.

yes, videos give you a better idea

the band we are in the process of booking had a video on their site and it was at that point (plus a personal rec from someone who i trust taste-wise) that i said, 'i am 99.9% sure these guys are going to be it'

we went to see them live, sure enough, they were 'it'...

We booked NYC Swing and we got to see them play live in NYC. They were awesome! I think they were planning to have showcases for their other bands as well. I would give a call and see when they are. From the videos, all of their bands looked terrific, and I have never heard any negative feedback. The only downside I know of is that they are $$$.
